I am a 54 year old nurse trying to lose 15-20 pounds I have a Fitbit surge to help me be accountable and my fitness pal to monitor my diet

Hi Debby, I'm 47 former lab tech, also new to My Fitness Pal. I am no stranger to dieting, sadly. I can tell you that in my experience, I do much better staying on track when I keep a food diary... the best advice I can give is BE COMPLETELY HONEST, or as some have said, "if you bite it, write it". The next best advice-- measure your portions until you get good at truthfully eyeballing what a half cup portion looks like, or 3 to 4 Oz serving of protein. My biggest area of need right now is needing accountability to get my booty back to the gym after slacking off for the past three weeks!
