walking and running question?

Options
Hi
I use map my fitness for all my pace measurement. When I walk fast for me the pace still shows i walking leisurely. When I run the pace shows im walking briskly. I can't afford a tracking system for exercising . When I go to log my workout what should i say my pace is?
Please and thank you for posting.

I use the app also. I just think I'm not going as fast as I think I am.

Try driving your route in the car so you are running a known distance. Then track the time it takes to run that known distance. Your pace is min/mile.

Or you can track your pulse rate which would be more accurate in terms of calories burned (All you need is a watch). Calculate your max heart rate and see what percentage you are of your max heart rate. From there, you can estimate your calorie burn.

Did you pick running as the activity before starting? It doesn't know unless you tell it.

I give myself 100 calories a mile. It's done very well for me.

Same here. I use mapmywalk to keep track of my distances and it estimates roughly 100 calories burned per mile traveled. I've tried to eat back those calories close to 100% and have had no issues with maintaining.

I wouldn't worry about that, personally. As long as the calories are accounted for correctly, MFP can label it anyway it wants as far as I'm concerned.

I can walk briskly at 7km/hr which for other people would be at least a jog

Maybe your running pace is slower than the pre calibrated run limit

It doesn't really matter does it?

    agreed.
there are also other free apps such as runkeeper/endomondo that sync with mfp that will give slower pace.i also use samsung galaxy health on s5.
mfp also has category for this in cardio >jogging/running in place.
use both till you achieve mfp minimum run speed of 5mph/8kph.

Try Runtastic app. You choose options for exercises such as walking, running, swimming...and it calculate calories differently. You do not need to purchase premium version, since free one gives you everything you need. Only thing you need is iphone/android and you need to carry it with you when you exercise.

Have you tried setting your mapmyfitness to 'run' not walk? then if you do walking intervals you'll still see an overall pace. It does track distance very well I find.

I found that mapmyfitness grossly overestimated my calorie burn. You might be better off getting a different app. Lots of them out there that are free.

MapMyFitness is exactly the same as MapMyRun, other than the branding.
