Hi everyone! I'm new to MFP, I've only been here for a week or so! Hi! :)
I have a quick question, HOW on earth do you all fight cravings?! It's killing me not pinching a Christmas chocolate!

I have some chocolate and fit it into my calories.

The first week or two (or month) can be hard and that is where the willpower comes into play. The old adage "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips" is very true. You may love the taste of that chocolate but is it worth not reaching the REAL you?

That said, there is nothing wrong with eating chocolate, cake, pizza, hamburgers, etc. as long as you can do so in moderation and make sure you are tracking everything and learning what you can and cannot eat. The point of tracking is to hopefully teach you how to live the rest of your life without having to monitor everything, but maybe you will need to do it anyway.

Enjoy delicious food, enjoy healthy food, enjoy living. Don't get down when you eat something you "shouldn't" because there shouldn't be any food on a "shouldn't" list! Just learn to control the amount you have.

    Good luck.

You just have to talk your brain out of it! It's hard starting out. When I start to crave things I drink a glass or two of water and then after I've had it I wait a few minutes and usually the feeling passes. You just have to find something that diverts your attention. Perhaps logging onto here via the app and seeing other's doing well will curb your needs?

I try to walk around or do something active for ten minutes and then see if the craving has passed. Water's a good tip too. Also I aim to 'budget' treats like chocolate so I can replace craving with anticipation. Good luck!

For me it's about eating what I decide instead of what "calls" to me. If I really want it, I figure out how to fit it in my budget, because if it's that important, it can displace some other food. Of course, if I used up my whole budget on potato chips with sour cream dip, I'd be pretty hungry by bedtime, but that doesn't mean I can't find room for the occasional chocolate truffle. But my firm rule is, no grabbing a chocolate truffle and eating it on impulse. It has to be logged first, and has to fit in the budget. I got used to that surprisingly fast. It saves me from the experience I read here so often, "OMG, I just ate a pizza and suddenly discovered to my horror that it was 2,000 calories."

All of these things... I try really hard to stay on a protein rich diet, 30% protein, 20% fat and 50% carbs. This keeps my belly feeling full so much that after I've eaten my planned meal I wouldn't even desire anything else. (except a sugary full of fat coffee drink... and even then I've found a protein shake flavored with coffee!)

Ooohhhh I know what you mean. Chocolate and avoiding at Christmas. I am 3 days into changing my life. I need to lose about 70lbs, that Christmas chocolate is talking to me, I have so far avoided and had soooo much water. Trips to the loo, just ridiculous. Let's keep up the good work.

We seem to be in exactly the same boat! I've been drinking water like there's no tomorrow, trying to get in my 2l a day. Agreed about the trips to the loo! But it's going to do us the world of good. I've locked away my unopened quality street, heroes, and box of lindor in a drawer under my bed under lots of bedsheets - hopefully it will work!
Thanks for all the help everyone!

This my 4th day doing MFP and struggling like you seeing the macademia nuts chocolate and chips..to satisfy my craving I log 3 chips that I normally eat and log 1 chocolate if I really want to eat it.However, I just preoccupy myself doing my couponing or cleaning the house to forget about eating junks.
