Good sturdy lunch box?

I'm out of the house from 8am until 10:30pm most weekdays and I really need a good lunch box (or two) so that I can pack some lunch for university and some dinner for work, does anyone have any recommendations? Ideally something I can pack salads (including the occasional pasta salad, so something that won't leak all over my bag), sandwiches and veggies etc in. Also, if anyone has any recommendations for snack sized containers too that would be great, I like to snack on veggies and hummus and I'm at a bit of a loss about how to transport dips without having to take the whole container!

These are small containers that I got from Amazon: Rubbermaid LunchBlox Kids Tall Lunch Bag Kit0

I use one by Thermos that is actually a "can cooler". It looks exactly like a lunchbox but has plastic inside instead of fabric. Easier to clean! Plus it has a small velcro flap on the top so if I need to throw something small in or grab a can of pop I don't have to unzip the whole thing. Only thing I regret is not buying a slightly larger one. Mine fits two small Tupperware and 2 cans of pop but If I want to add snacks there's zero room. Definitely get a size up than you plan if you are going to carry alot.
Don't skimp on the Tupperware or you will just have a leaky mess. Suggest getting the tops that twist on instead of the snap on if you are carrying pasta salad or chili. You can always wrap some plastic wrap around the Tupperware to make sure it doesn't open on accident.
If you are warming up cans of soup, steaming veggies, or making rice at work these things are a lifesaver!!! I use mine almost everyday http://www.amazon.com/Sistema-10-9-Rice-Steamer-Bowl/dp/B00BTIVNT4 I bought mine at Bed Bath and Beyond.
I always feel kind of dorky walking around with a huge lunch box so I put mine in a big shoulder bag.0 -
After a cheap container mishap, I invested in a set of Snapware containers. They are still going strong after four months of daily use.0

I love my Ozarka Trail lunch box. Lots of shapes and sizes. I use it every day. Picked it up for $10 around the camping department at Walmart. Also, I use the Rubbermade Easy Find Lids. I love them. They never spill, they store easy, and they are not super expensive. I also feel like Walmart has them for the best price. I hope that helps.0

I have a Planetbox and LOVE it. They're expensive, but awesome. I have the Rover, and it has multiple sections to put different things and a teeny tiny compartment that I use for a bit of chocolate to finish off my meal. The big compartment is big enough for probably 2 sandwiches. It comes with a medium-ish and small container that seal completely leak-proof. It wouldn't work for a large salad or amount of pasta salad, I think the larger sealable cup is only about 1 cup.
On a cheaper note, I buy square container with 2 compartments, one for veggies/meat, one for dip, at Walmart. They're similar to these, but only 2 compartments: http://smile.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-Easy-Divided-Storage-Container/dp/B005T63LHE/ref=pd_sim_79_11?ie=UTF8&dpID=51S-mHYlNML&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=1FHD5NY4P8A93EWH90BR
I also have a container that was made for apple slices, where it has a small area in the middle that has a separate lid and room to put the apple slices in around it. It was made for kids and bought for a few dollars ages ago. I've used it for bit sized meats with something to dip in the middle, apple slices and peanut butter, carrots and ranch, etc. This would be the adult equivalent: http://smile.amazon.com/Fit-Fresh-Fruit-Veggie-Removable/dp/B000FNEVQQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1451579688&sr=1-7&keywords=dip+container
I've considered getting one of these, but, strangely enough given my love for the Planetbox, I've been too cheap to buy one so far. http://smile.amazon.com/Stay-Fit-Deluxe-Salad-Freeze/dp/B011SBLA80/ref=pd_sim_79_16?ie=UTF8&dpID=513o8VucKDL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=1XMBYYEXFGDJ4SK2WJT8
Also, you're a bad bad influence making me look at storage containers, as I'm always looking for something better than what I have.0 -
The one I use is similar to this: http://g03.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1dl0rIXXXXXaoXVXXq6xXFXXXO/lovely-neoprene-font-b-lunch-b-font-font-b-bag-b-font-children-cartoon-font-b.jpg It has a flat bottom that is big enough to put a large tupperware salad container in, and still have room for a piece of fruit (or two!). I frequently pack both breakfast and lunch in it.0

I have teeny tupperwares that I use for salad dressing or dips. http://www.amazon.com/Tupperware-Classic-Sheer-Midgets-Green/dp/B004QSLBSM/ref=pd_sim_201_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=41N0DgXgwGL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=0ZCQX8SV983XQ90643GD0

Yes, that is a shaker.....it's totally awesome, I got room for pasta, sauce, veggies, fruit, etc...all seperated Cause I don't like my "stuff" mixed lol.....at least not until it's all proportioned in 1 place.....cause like when I bring pasta to work, if I nuke the pasta and sauce together, the sauce usually gets too hot, and the pasta not enough. so it's awesome.
And yes, that is a "Shaker cup" THose alone are like 10$ in store...they must be good, cause I noticed their site is actually sold out too.0 -
Japanese bento boxes worked well for us. A large variety, some without sealed compartments, some with sealed compartments, some intended for soups and stews. Some have built in compartments for utensils or come with matching utensils. Some have bags that match with cooling bags in them as well.
It's a lunch box and plate/eating container at the same time, so there was less wash-up afterward, as well, which I really liked.
And it's been great for calorie counting, as well. The boxes are measured in milliliters. If one has the typical bento ratio of 4 rice:2 protein:1 other (usually veggie), the milliliters usually match, approximately, the calories in the meal, as long as there aren't a lot of fattening sauces added. If one has a different ratio (most trying to eat healthy have a bit less rice and more veggies), it's still pretty easy to calculate out the calorie usage for the containers.
This is a nice bit about bentos: http://justbento.com/handbook/bento-basics
And this is a place where we got a lot of ours. There are many places, though.
