I need diet planning help as well as diet content. I literally walk from 7pm-1:30am non-stop, chart for about an hour, walk, chart again, walk and then walk from about 4:30am until about 7:00 am. I am waiting for my FitBit HR to track my steps, etc. I am just unsure about calories needed daily and what I should be eating to keep my body going and to address my age. I need to lose about 35 lbs, I am 5'3" and I am very healthy and have worked out much of my life with times of weight gain (back) and stopping exercising. I just need some structure and have no idea where to start. I work 3 days in a row (14 hr shifts) and then have off 4 days.

Hi & welcome. I'm no help w/ Fitbit (sorry) but you can easily obtain your calorie goal by inputting your stats into MFP and select 1 lb./week to lose. (Or choose .5 lb/week, if you'd prefer to lose a bit more slowly and have more calories to work with.)

You may hear from people to not think in terms of a "diet" per se, but to continue eating everything that you enjoy, albeit in smaller portions. You can save calories for big dinners or special occasions by eating lighter at times. Weight loss really doesn't have to be miserable. It's key to make it sustainable.

And age - yeah - I've lost the most weight ever after menopause. MFP is a great tool!

If you are using a fitbit charge hr, you should set your goal in MFP to sedentary and then lync your fitbit to MFP. That way, it will add in all your movement, exercise, etc. Then eat the amount of calories it tells you to eat as it adds in your exercise and movement. That is what I have found that works best.

Exercise did not help me no where near as much as eating in a calorie deficit did
Log your food ! Quit fast food. Cook everything at home. (my secrets).

Yes to calorie deficit being the only component necessary for weight loss.

No to "quit fast food. Cook everything at home" as though these are prerequisites for losing weight. They're your preferences, sure. But neither is necessary for dropping weight.
