Body Recomposition vs. Bulk/Cutting Phases

Hey everyone - I've always thought that in order to achieve my fitness goals, I'd need to choose to either:
1) Lose fat while minimizing muscle loss i.e. cut phase OR
2) Build muscle while minimizing fat gain i.e. bulk phase
During the cut phase, I'd need to be in a caloric deficit and in a bulk I'd want a caloric surplus.
I've recently read some articles on body recomposition in which you add muscle and lose fat at the same time. Basically, you are in a caloric surplus on weight lifting days and a deficit on rest/cardio days to achieve this.
My question is whether or not this actually works. Has anybody tried this and had success? What are the pros and cons of both methods (recomp vs. bulk/cut phases)?
Thanks in advance for your help!

There are a couple of threads in the Maintaining Weight section on this. It's absolutely possible. A couple of people who have gone this route are @cwolfman13 and @sijomial .0

It depends how patient you are. Most people don't like doing a recomp because you see slower results. I'm personally scared to do a bulk, the though of eating to gain weight scare me.0

After doing some research on recomp, I like the idea of bulking in the fall/winter, cutting in the spring and doing a recomp in the summer. That way, by the beginning of summer I'm as lean as I want to be and can maintain that level of body fat throughout the summer while making some muscle gains along the way. This also allows me to enjoy the summer and eat more (since my calories would be increased during a recomp) as I'm typically doing more social activities during this time that involve food e.g. barbecues, etc. There are also more occasions where I'd be shirtless and can take advantage of being lean throughout the summer since I wouldn't be gaining any fat during a recomp.0

This is a somewhat long read, but worth it: bodyrecomposition.com/muscle-gain/general-philosophies-of-muscle-mass-gain.html/. There are also a lot of other articles on his site that are well worth reading.0
