Hello, my name is Libby. I am willing to do whatever it takes to lose 30 pounds. Gosh, it sounds like so much but I won't worry myself with that. I look forward to staying in the present and gain support from all of you. Thank you for your welcomes!

My question: Are there many of you here that have had success losing a sufficient amount of weight AND are over 50? I see a lot of success stories with young folk and it doesn't boost my spirits since its a whole other ballpark with losing weight ofter 50.

Thanks for your input

Libb

I am 64 years and only 5ft tall which again gives me less calories to eat. I have lost 40lbs (I put some back over Christmas) so I am back to it to lose it again. It is more than possible to lose weight over 50. Just weigh and log your food and as long as you are eating less than you burn, you WILL lose weight. Age is no barrier.

There are lots of successes over 50, if you read some of the posts in the "Success Stories" category. I'm 60, hypothyroid, and (of course) menopausal . . . on April 17, 2015, I weighed 183 pounds. I'm now down to 125 and some ounces. I haven't weighed this little since sometime in the 1970s, if I recall correctly.

Read the "stickies" (permanent posts at the top in each forum topic) labeled "Most Helpful Posts", especially in the "Getting Started" and "General Diet and Weight Loss" categories. Do what they say, and you'll lose weight. Personally, I think we more mature folks have some advantages on this road, in terms of knowing ourselves well, and knowing how to set a course and stick with it.

It's simple, but not always easy. There's no magic, but with consistency & persistence, you'll succeed.

Hi Libb - I'm 60 now and lost 65 lbs (230-165) over 3yrs from age 53 to 56. I still go up over the winter, but fight back down after the holidays. I use a ton of cycling in addition to dieting (because I'm a terrible evening snacker). You can do it! A great book I'd recommend is Judith Beck's "Beck diet for life" or whatever the current title is (she's done a couple of revisions plus has a website). She'll help you with the thinking side of weight loss the most. Very practical! Good luck and Happy New Year!
