hi I am a kitchen hand and have 4-5x 8 hour shifts a week. Would my activity level be light or moderate?
Would it be bad to set it lower than it is to lose weight a bit faster?

I work in fast food, 4 10-hr shifts or 5 8-hr, and my personal activity level on days that i work is actively very active, although i didn't know until i got my Fitbit. It won't hurt to set your activity slightly lower unless you don't have enough energy to fuel you through the day. Losing faster, while you might like it, isn't necessarily always good. You want to retain muscle as much as possible, and losing too much weight each week will take more muscle from your body.

Set it for what you think your activity level is, then look at your weight loss trend after a few weeks. If you're losing more than you have mfp set for or you aren't feeling well, raise your activity level (hence raising your calories). If you're losing less, lower your activity level. Mfp is set up to have you add back in exercise calories if you do extra exercise, and most people eat back 50-75% of those extra calories.
