Top ten reasons to become a nurse:
1. Pays better then fast food, though the hours aren't as good.
2. Fashionable shoes and sexy white uniforms.
3. Needles: "Tis better to give than receive"
4. Reassure your patients that all bleeding stops... eventually.
5. Expose yourself to rare, exciting and new diseases.
6. Interesting aromas.
7. Curteous and infallible doctors who always leave clear orders in perfectly legible handwriting.
8. Do enough charting to navigate around the world twice.
9. Celebrate all the holidays with your friends - at work.
10. Take comfort that most of your patients survive no matter what you do to them.

Personally i found number five hilarious.
I'm so glad that i'm not going into adult or child nursing but into psychiatric not that most of this doesnt apply.0 -
I liked this -- even though I'm not a nurse0

#10 scares me a little.0

All true, but will need updated as alot of places don't do handwritten orders from doctors anymore. (THANK GOD)
I may just have to steal this and post at work! LOL0 -
This is why I am just a CNA! LOL. Although as a CNA I get to:
Get called an *kitten* wiper as an occupation.
Get yelled @ by my LPN and RN
Put myself @ risk for all new illnesses
Pray I don't catch a cold from the residents after they cough all over me.
Get scatched and pinced from combative residents.
I guess I'd rather wipe *kitten* then to stick needles in other people!0 -
made me giggle..
luckily most of the docs at my hospital now use Ipads and tablets to do a lot of the prescriptions and the like..0 -
Love it!0

It sounds like at least there are some nurses in this thread; I have a question I would like answered. Why when I get blood drawn at my doctors office when some do it I dont even notice it is going on and when other nurses do it it hurts like a *kitten*? Isnt there some kind of uniform standard? I sometimes wish that there was a blood drawing request line.0

I dont really know i think that its more down to the experience that someone has. For example if i get blood taken by the nurse at my rhuematology dept who spends all day taking blood its fine. But once i had to get blood taken by a doctor because three nurses couldnt find any veins and that hurt like a b***h!0 -

Love this! I'm not a nurse, but my daughter is a student nurse. She'll love this! Thanks for posting. :laugh:0

NA-Willie: Sometimes it has nothing to do with experience. Nerves are not visible on the skin, and sometimes we pierce right through one, sometimes not. It's the luck of the draw most of the time. Needle size has some factor in it, but not always. In my years and thousands of sticks, I've heard both "I didn't feel that" and "that hurt like a mother.".....Although, if you piss your nurse off.......0
