Back Again!

Hi :)

Having put on a whole stack of weight after becoming disabled, I'm now looking at losing some to help my recovery. I used to be a runner, running half marathon distances and beyond, but last year I was diagnosed with bursitis on my hip, and the resulting pain stopped me from running completely. I've now been also diagnosed with spondylosis and degenerative disc disease and I'm unable to walk any distance. I'm a candidate for spinal surgery now and I'm waiting on a date.

From being active three - four times a week, I'm now inactive. I've put on two stone since this time last year - easily done - and now I need to lose some.

I've set my target to lose three stones steadily. I have an exercise bike and I know I can pedal that without hurting myself, or at least I could before my spinal diagnosis, so I'll see how that goes. If I lost two, I'd be back to where I was and happier - three would be the icing on the cake.

I've dieted before and went from a size 16 to a size 10 with Weightwatchers online. They've now changed their format and I don't like it! I know I can lose the weight. My problem is that besides all of this I am also gluten and nut intolerant and a vegetarian!! The strongest thing I did shopping last night was to not buy cheese as I know that this is my weakness.

I'm ready to get healthier again and would appreciate any support x

Hi paintergirl - I'm sorry to hear things have been so tough for you. :( The good news is you CAN lose weight without exercise. Weight loss happens in the kitchen. Exercise is for fitness (and of course, you can eat more foodz with more exercise). If you set up your MFP correctly and eat the number of calories it gives you each day, the weight should start coming off, even if you're unable to get exercise in.

    You've got this. :flowerforyou:

Hi! I can relate to your post. I also have degenerative disc disease yet I'm not a candidate for surgery. I had been running quite a bit when I tore my plantar fascia. That pain (& the boot) combined with back pain lead me to stop exercising. Now my foot is healed (my back clearly not), but I'm afraid to exercise heavily in fear of rehurting my foot. I've gained weight and I feel slothenly.

Hi... Add me! I'm as determined as you are! Lost 80, gained 50, lost the 50 running over the span of a year then encountered hip issues. All recovered now and training hard at the gym daily. Working on hitting my macros. Been active on MFP for a year now, and have been here on and off over the years. It works!

I really wish I wasn't waiting for surgery, I'd much rather be lacing my runners up!! I also had Plantar Fascia problems on the same leg funnily enough, wore the sexy boot every night until it cleared up. Nothing else would shift it! I ran three half marathons 2014 and then all this happened  I think this was just waiting to happen. Apparently I'm a candidate because the damage is localised - above and below the damage is perfect. It was fascinating seeing my MRI results!

You have a request! Thanks Amy. I'm pleased you're running again. I hope I can get back to it. My fear is that post-surgery they'll tell me not to run.

Hi there, Sorry to hear about your rough time. I'm also back after having break brought about by injury. Specialist has given me clearance to build up to jogging on treadmill :-).

Lucky you - my treadmill looks very, very sad and abandoned. I hope I get to use it again!
