Late Night Snacking!

Hey everyone,

Yesterday I had a great day. I got my exercise in and I stayed within my calories. I even ended up eating extra because i was well below my calorie limit for the day. I do not know what my issue is but sometimes I tend to get up late around or after midnight and want to snack. Last night I ended up eating M&M's, yes bad i know! I am curious to know if anyone has or had this problem. If so, what did you do to overcome it?

I have the same problem. I usually stay up late at night to work and since dinner's about 7, I get quite peckish about 11pm and end up eating chocolate :P There was once I just ignored the hunger pangs and went right on working, but woke up the next day having gastric pains :(
I'm trying to snack healthy now, and eat fruit instead, so I've been getting a lot of those healthy fruit snacks and nibbling on biscuits instead. The biscuits have helped quite a lot in staving off the hunger pangs..but I do sneak in a chocolate square now and then ;)

Honestly, I don't buy M&Ms. Or chips or keep ice cream in the house. I can't take the temptation it's too much for me! My favorite snack for munching on while watching TV is popcorn. If I save up enough calories during the day I treat my self to a whole bowl around 180 calories. Gives me something to look forward to during the day.

Drink water...lots of it until you have to pee or throw up. Usually after doing this for a while, those late night pangs tend to disappear, or your spouse does, whichever comes first.

I used to get midnight snack cravings as well. Instead of eating something, I'd just take a couple huge swigs of water. Not only did it hit the spot and fill me up, I didn't have to brush my chompers again.
  • Hiya. I dont know whether it will help, but I eat my dinner at about 5/6ish so I often get hungry about 9/10pm.
To avoid the late night snacking (that just sits on your thighs) whilst sleeping.. so I started having a cup of tea.. the hot drink makes my belly feel full, and its working. xxx
  • I *DEFINITELY* have this problem and experienced a version of it last night. I realize that when I am tired and should probably just go to bed, I get the urge to eat random things. Sometimes things I don't even like that much. At those times I just say what the problem is out loud, get up, and go to bed.

However, there are other times when I realize that I may be legitimately hungry since I haven't had enough calories that day. That happened last night, so I ate my 2-year-old's current favorite dish. He invented it, so it sounds a little crazy, but it's REALLY good.

    3/4 frozen blueberries
    1/2 cup vanilla soy milk

That's it. The soy milk freezes a little when you pour it on the frozen blueberries and makes a luscious slushiness that is delicious, sweet, almost creamy, and very satisfying,

Oh yes! I so do that. I've stopped buying those kinds of things. Even for my kids. If I am absolutely DYING to have something, I'll eat something simple like yogurt or a hand full of almonds or something like that. I'll also drink more water even though I know I'll be up all night using the restroom. LOL

I have FINALLY gotten to the point that I do not crave chocolate like I used to. It took a while, but I did it. LOL
  • Some one on here told me about freezing muller light yoghurts.
I've kept a few in teh freezer and taken one out when im peckish in the eveing and they're great.
They take ages to eat and are just like ice cream but only around 99 calories per pot.
The toffee one is my favourite.

I always try to find low calorie things to snack on because i just like eating lol!!

Yes I need to get rid of those things! A friend of mine brought them for me. I told him I think he is trying to make me bigger :)

Really good suggestions, thanks! Someone just told me also that they brush their teeth and that the taste makes the craving go away.

Yep! This is what I do! If it not in the house you can't eat it! The mini kettle popcorn bags are my favorite sweet and salty together with water about 8:30 or 9.

I try to eat an apple about an hour or 2 before I go to bed, and that does a pretty good job at keeping me full. Once your body gets used to a healthier style of eating, you'll stop craving junk food...now I crave apples ALL the time...like to the point where if I dont' have any, I need to go to the store and buy some ASAP!

Same problem, I have a light snack when I get home from work, workout, and then eat dinner around 6/630. I'm up usually until about 10 or 11 so I have started to get a craving close to bedtime.
To help myself out, I try(TRY, lol) to plan a snack when my daughter goes to bed at 830 before the craving comes. My plan is a hot cup of tea, and an orange, and I keep water with me at all times. This helps me a lot. When we don't have oranges, I tend to go a little crazy, and it shows in the morning on the scale.
