Ankle injury - help!

So. I've managed to sprain my ankle badly enough that I'm not going to be able to run or do any vigorous exerciser for a month. I can't afford to just not exercise at all for that month so I wondered if people have any suggestions of exercises I can do with a sprained ankle? Any and all suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance

Have you seen an orthopedist?0

I went to the hospital today, but I haven't seen a physio or anything yet.0

Make sure you do physio. I didn't bother after I rolled my ankle and waited 1 1/2 years and suffered for no reason. Sorry can't help with the work out.0

I was stupid and kept running. I ended up with terrible hip pain, which was probably overcompensating for the ankle pain. I took about a month off after the awful hip pain...
How about swimming? Maybe biking or the rowing machine?0 -
I'm recovering from ankle surgery and got the ok from dr to do water aerobics. It's allows you to have a great workout without the pressure on your ankle and I also do chair exercises. There are some good ones on YouTube.0

You will need some complete rest time but then after a few weeks you can probably return to some kind of gym work. I went back to the gym and did weights and low impact cardio: rowing, elliptical, some swimming after 3 weeks with a similar injury.
3 months later though I have just sought out physio as I wanted to know how to build up my strength and balance in my ankle again. So physio is probably a good plan and perhaps seek it out sooner rather than later. It has been frustrating but hasn't derailed me. I hope to get back to full mobility and strength soon.0 -
Thanks so much for all your replies. Really helpful0

Recovering myself. My sprain was bad enough to be in a cast for a week, and then in a removable ankle bracket for another week. But it was 2 weeks of complete rest - I wasn't allowed to walk more than the distance from my bedroom to the bathroom. It's been 5 weeks since I sprained my ankle. I'm already walking, driving, etc. without a problem. And only today I'm considering starting some careful extremely low impact workout.0

Should probably check with dr and/or pt, but from my own experience.....
-walking "laps" around in the mall in crutches can do wonders for your mental state, even if it is borderline stupid
-upper body lifting and body weight exercises, initially ones that you can do without standing
-lower body exercises, initially body weight only or with light weights
-swimming
- more swimming!
- Stationary bike, starting with low resistance
- Walking, adding incline as the ankle gets stronger
- Arc trainer0 -
Does it actually her when you step? Or does it come when you do another activity like dunno...soccer or lunges?0
