Smoothies - reduce appetite/cravings?

Hi! (First post from me :))

I've tried for my whole life to lose weight, but always fail within a week or so, which makes me give the whole thing up. However, I bought a well-known make of smoothie blender after Xmas, and have been having a smoothie (inc fruit, veg and nuts/avocado) for breakfast every morning. I've found that my appetite has completely decreased and I'm not feeling inclined to eat any sweet stuff, or any more food than I need to. My tastes have completely changed. Have lost half a stone so far. I can't believe this is happening - it feels like a switch has been flicked or something, but I'm terrified it'll switch back! I'm wondering if maybe I was deficient in a certain vitamin/mineral or some going all these years and that's what made me eat all the time? (I'm usually completely obsessed with food). Has anyone else experienced something similar, and if so, did it last?

Not for me. I don't find smoothies satisfying and quickly get hungry.

I do better with a high protein, low-carb breakfast or, if I'm not hungry yet, no breakfast at all.

I also do better focusing on what foods will nourish my body and increase my good health. I find that just focusing on weight loss results in failure (due to impatience).

I find that a smoothie does fill me in the morning. However, I noticed I haven't been getting enough protein, so I either add a protein powder or lately, I've been eating a serving of bacon after I finish the smoothie for protein. The bacon isn't as much protein, but it's so tasty, lol.

Depends on smoothie, if it is from very sweet fruits or berries it becomes my trigger food or makes me binge on something else sometimes because of sweetness... sigh

I add beans like chick peas, butter beans or cannellini beans to my smoothies for protein and and fiber.

I often have protein shake or smoothie with protein powder for breakfast, and find them pretty filling. But I'm also generally a small frequent meal-eater, so I don't need to stay satiated for the next six hours necessarily. An all-fruit smoothie doesn't do it for me, though, if I don't want to be hungry.

I have a smoothie for lunch. I can make it before work and then I'm not tempted to munch on junk at the office. I usually add spinach, carrots and either berries or an orange and either protein powder or milk: I try to keep it at about 300 calories.I can drink it on the way to the gym then do my workout at lunchtime. Usually I do half before my workout, half after.

I'm inclined to think it is only psychosomatic, however I am glad it is working for you.

I found that when I upped protein and fruit, I was less interested in sweet things like baked goods. It's last almost a year now :)

My smoothies have sufficient calories, fat, protein, and fiber to keep me full for hours.

The fat, protein and fiber content makes the difference for me when it comes to satiety.

It may indeed be psychosomatic, but I'm happy with that!
