getting started

doing this alone, daughter moved out this year and just me and the pets, need some motivation at 55 with a desk job in my home to move, eat right and lose weight! I don't want family history of diabetes and heart problems. Did become a vegetarian 3 years ago so recipes would be awesome! I'm still working with some products that mimic chicken, something I miss, old family favorites, also don't do well with most processed products at all. Help!

You can do this! There are a couple of great vegetarian/vegan comfort food books. Are you vegetarian for ethical or other reasons? Would you be okay with a small amount of chicken once a month? You don't have to do this alone. There is lots of support here on MFP! feel free to send me a friend request if you like. (oh and welcome!) -

Have you started weighing and measuring your food and logging it here? It really helps to see your current strengths and weaknesses and develop a plan based on that. I also had the same question @FullLifeNeil asked: can you eat meat occasionally, in small amounts? No sense feeling deprived. That is a recipe for failure.

Lots of great people and support here so keep reading the learning. Make small changes at a time and that way your confidence will grow with each success. Good luck!
