Clawing myself out.

Hello all.

I am a 42 year old single mom of two, four years out of a twenty year abusive marriage. I have had problems with my weight for my whole life, but around age 30 I simply gave up, and let the weight pile on.
For the last four years I have been working hard to build a life for me and my boys, and I am very proud of the fact that despite next to no work experience (stay at home mom for 16 years), lack of education and numerous health issues (many stemming from the weight) I have managed to make a nice home for us.

I have finally started to realize that if I want to see my boys grow up, and be here to hopefully one day have grandchildren, I have to do something about my health, and that all has to start by loosing the extra weight. I need to loose about 50 kilos (110 lbs).

I am very realistic about weight-loss, and I know that the only way that I will find my rainbow is by consuming less calories than I burn. The only way I have ever been able to halfway manage what I eat is by logging, and I have to be meticulous, that is the only way for me to control myself. This is the first time I've used a computer for the purpose, as I haven't really tried at all for well over ten years.

I have difficulties exercising because of my back and my legs, but I am making a big effort in walking more. I sit all day at work, so now I'll use every brake to walk around the mall where I work. When I'm at home, I'll walk in place for at least 10 minutes for every hour at night, if I'm not cleaning or cooking, the dog walking is minimal at the moment, because here in Iceland the snow and ice on all sidewalks are hazardous to the health  but I'm excitedly waiting for better weather to be able to take my lovely dog for long daily walks and weekend hikes.

I would love to meet some people that are struggling with a lot of extra weight, as I really could use some support.

With love from the land of ice and fire
Linda

Welcome. I'm from Canada and I can relate to the hazards of winter weather! Even a slow walk for a minimal amount of time is a win - and your dog will be happy too! I know that when I come back from a walk I always feel better and so do my two dogs.

Feel free to add me as a friend.

Thank you. Yes it is always preferable to walk a little rather than not at all. And Miss Tracy would never let me get away with nothing.
