Hi everybody I'm trying to lose 40/50lbs I'm exercising for 40 minutes 6 times a week, keeping my calorie intake to 800/1000 daily & thinking of including using a power plate....
Are they useful? Do I need to use it regularly to see results or is once a week enough?
Thanks

You are not eating enough. Put your stats and goal into MFP and eat the calories it gives you. Enter your exercise and eat 50-75% of those calories too.
Get a digital food scale to weigh your food so you know you are getting enough calories.
You are trying to lose weight not make yourself ill.
What is a power plate?

Really? I thought I'd have to reduce my food & up my exercise alot.
Mfp suggest 1200 calories but I thought that's the normal amount.
Power plate is something you stand on & it vibrates you do exercises whilst on it.0 -

Heh. No that logs and weighs their food thinks 1200 calories is the normal amount. You're going to want to start doing that because you're eating way more than you think you are.
Let's think about this critically for a moment. Why would vibrating while exercising be beneficial to losing weight, gaining strength, or....anything? Don't fall for miracle cure sales pitches. Get your calories correct, exercise sensibly, be consistent. That's it.0 -
you are eating too little, and that power plate sounds stupid. Eat more and go walking every day , you will have better results.0

Set MFP to lose 2 pounds per week if you really want fast weight loss and eat the amount it tells you. Try to be as accurate as possible. The plate thing sounds like a scam. I wouldn't waste my money on it.
Here's what to remember for weight loss. You just need a moderate calorie deficit. Don't try to lose the weight too quickly.
Doing cardio burns calories so make sure to add any exercise to MFP and eat back at some of the calories you burned (depending on how many calories you burned). Weight loss can be done without any exercise but the exercise is good for your heart and other things.
Also depending on your goals you might want to also find a weight lifting routine. When you're body is in a calorie deficit it's easy to lose muscle. And if you think you might want to include strength training in the future no better time to start then now.0 -
That calorie intake is too low and the power plate is a ridiculous gimmick.
2000 cals is often given as a normal amount for an average woman to maintain their weight.0 -
Sorry for no reply been in hospital.....
Anyway....
Thank you for replying I honestly had a mind block & thought women were supposed to eat 1200 daily so I thought it should be lower Duh!! Mfp has said at 2lbs loss a week I should be eating 1200 daily also been doing 25-30mins of cardio & aiming for 10,000 steps but today only getting 80000 ...0 -
If mfp. Says 1200 then eat that much. But eventually you may want to lower to lose less then 2 pounds per week0

2 lbs a week is a pretty steep goal, and 1200 is a pretty low calorie goal.
It is generally recommended that 50-75lbs to lose is 1.5 lb a week; 25-50lbs is 1lbs a week; 25lbs and less .5 lbs a week.
If you find 1200csls too little change your goal. The more sustainable your goal the greater chance you have to succeed.
Although 1200 is talked about a lot on these forums, it works best for people who are petite and a little older. It is closer to their actual daily calorie needs.
Do eat back 50-75% of your exercise calories. That is the way MFP is set up. You will still lose at your goal.

You could just give me the couple thousand you'd spend on the power plate. You'll lose the same amount of weight/fat as if you bought it and I'd get a trip to Hawaii out of it. Win/Win.0

If mfp is telling you to eat 1200 to lose 2lbs a week, lower your target to 1lb a week and see what your target is.
As for the power plate, I rarely use it. There's some at my gym and I use them for planks and maybe massaging a sore muscle for that day. I'm sure there can be some more useful exercises to do on them but I never really looked into them.0 -
Lol I wasn't going to buy one out right I think there around £3000 I'd much rather a holiday to hawaii also!!
That's very interesting about the calorie goal for somebody slimmer that never crossed my mind I've been sticking to it for 1 week now at first it was hard I was starving but now I'm alright so i think I'll keep to it thank you for the advice though.
I was thinking of using it while doing press-up to see if it made a difference for my awful arm jiggle but didn't want to waste weeks doing it if it didn't actually make a difference.
Again thanks for replying0 -
Taking in every three hours will keep your motabalizom going to burn cal.. And be sure to keep changing up your workouts and cardio for muscle confusion.0
