Crystal Light, Good or Evil?

I managed to give up my sweet tea and cokes but I have replaced them with Crystal Light lemonade. I do manage to drink plain water a couple of times a day but the majority of my liquid intake is Crystal Light. I have heard that artificial sweeteners can be bad if you are trying to lose weight. It's hard drinking water. I can manage it if I add lemons. Should I give up the Crystal Light?

I don't think you have to give it up completely, but try to make the majority of your intake come from water or even green tea.

Some Crystal Light flavors don't use artificial sweeteners. I have some that use real sugar which (5 g or less per packet). Maybe you could try those if you are worried about the sweeteners?

I think if you try to replace like 1 drink per day with water for a week, then the next week you can increase that to 2 drinks...etc...eventually you can get to the point where you have only 1 Crystal Light per day or less than that so you don't feel dependent on it. Your body needs the water, but I don't believe Crystal Light is "bad" unless you are just overdoing it.

That's a great idea! I did find out that for 16 oz. there are 10 calories and 70 mg of sodium. That's a lot of extra sodium if I am drinking several glasses a day. It might be why I'm in another plateau. Thanks!

I drink most of my liquids in Crystal Light....don't have any problems. It's got a lot less sodium than the drinks I used to put in my body and I like the flavor. So put me on the "thumbs up" side of the poll!

I only use half a crystal light packet to my 16oz water bottle... Try increasinging the amount of crystal light you put into your water until your comfortable with just the slight taste of it. I know sometimes i just need a lil flavor & im happy. :o)

I used to be in love with the crystal light drink packs but then I found Nutrilite's twist tubes. Basically they are the same concept but in a liquid form and with vitamins like for immunity, antioxidents, glucosamine, and sports health. I liked them better because I didn't get the aftertaste and headaches that crystal light seemed to bring. I was able to flavor my water with a liquid substance that mixes by itself quickly, gain extra vitamins, and drink something that didn't have bad sweetners. My thinking is Crystal Light is not bad in moderation like anything else but if it is not working maybe try other things to enhance the taste of water. I usually have to force myself to drink plain water but its a must :)

    Good luck!

There are zero calorie and zero sugar crystal lights. I drink the lemonade and its good, but I hate the small packets.

Here are my thoughts on Crystal Light, first of all it has artificial sweetener that alone would be enough not to use it. It changes the pH of water to more acidic, however not quite as acidic as soda/pop. It has hidden ingredients in it like msg and some reports suggest gluten. If you need to flavor your water, why not do it naturally...cucumber, mint, citrus fruits, berries. Frozen berries would keep your water cool and add a little flavor and if you need a little sweetness why not Stevia (less is more with Stevia since it is a lot of sweetness packed into a small amt, using more can give a not sweet taste). Artificial sweeteners have been shown to increase heart disease, stroke, cancer, depression etc. So when you are talking about being healthy as all of you are, I'm thinking why use it? No judgement if you do, just my 2 cents worth.
