this varies per person depending on stride length (which can vary even by day some times) for me thats anywhere between 4-5.5 miles.0

According to my Fitbit, 10k steps is about 4 miles.0
-
Does the Vivofit take into consideration your stride length or use GPS?
I average about 2100 steps per mile "Fitness" walking, a little less running. (Longer stride while running.) So roughly 4.75 miles per 10,000 steps or less if I do some running.0 -
I'm 5'7" and my fitbit says 10K steps is about 5 miles. However, when I run 5 miles my stride length must be much longer because I never accumulate 10K steps for that.0

Agreed with this. How you get those steps matters. I have found that when I run, I get about 25-30% less steps than if I walk. Which obviously makes sense.0 -
Stride length: average of 2.7 feet
10,000 steps = 27,000 feet
5280 feet per mile = 5.11 miles0 -
I'm 5'8, my stride length is 2 ft 7 so 10k is just under 5 miles0

6'2
About 5 miles usually per 10k0 -
Both leg/stride length and walking/running speed will affect the mileage needed to accumulate 10,000 steps.
I'm 5'2". It takes me just over 4.2 miles to accumulate 10,000 steps when I walk at a speed of roughly 3mph.

Fitbit tells me that 10,000 steps is about 4.5 miles. I am 5'10"+ but have very short legs.
No running--my steps are mostly walking and social dancing.0 -
You can edit stride length at the Fitbit website/dashboard. There is an entry for running and walking. If you don't customize it, I believe Fitbit uses some average #.I'm 5'7" and my fitbit says 10K steps is about 5 miles. However, when I run 5 miles my stride length must be much longer because I never accumulate 10K steps for that.

I just got a Fitbit charge HR. It underestimates my mileage (according to google maps). Is there a way to calibrate it for stride length? Not that it matters, really. Just curious what adjustments are possible.0

I get more steps running than walking. Like, if I walk for 15 mins then I get 1.5 miles and 2500 steps. If I run for the same amount of time, I get a mile more and 3500 steps.

Figure out your average stride length in feet multiply times number of steps taken then either do the conversion maths or Google ft to miles0
-
While I have not manually set my stride length, I've just walked today and 10k steps registered as 4.4 miles. I'm 5'8". I do think there is some fluctuation from day to day, though.0

As an interesting aside, my stride length changes dramatically depending on the terrain and conditions. I average 2.7 feet/step at 5'9" with a 33" inseam. Today's 10,312 steps (so far) have been 5.26 miles. I still have a 1 mile walk with my dogs tonight, hooray!0
