Started my diet Fridau June 10th. I am 5'2 and weigh 176 pounds. My goal is 140. I am tracking my food and have not consumed over 1400 calories (most day I dont reach 1000). I do 30 min shred with jillain micheals dvd and a 30min 6km min bike ride . I weighed myself 2 days ago and I thought I lost 1.5 lbs but today I weigh myself and I am, back to 176. UGH!!!!!!! What am i doing wrong?

try not to weight yourself more than once a week. Our weight fluctuates ALOT. Just keep doing what your doing!

Weight fluctuates daily. Be patient. You just started. Sometimes I will weigh myself one day and the next I will have gained a pound, and there is no way it is fat. And the next day I'm back. don't mind little fluctuations. It takes time.

Agreed. Take measurements. 1 pound of muscle takes up less volume than one pound of fat. That's why I only weigh myself once every 2 weeks. Good luck

How's your sodium intake? Are you drinking enough water? Weighing yourself often can be discouraging but I still do it..Keeps me motivated.

Don't be discouraged - rather, keep it up. Arielian is right... weight fluctuates a lot. I know mine does. Tomorrow I won't be weighing because my legs feel like tree trunks from my workout today... I tore them up, and they're retaining water.

Do make sure that you're consuming enough to fuel your body properly. It seems strange, but there is a minimum you can eat before your body says, "what they heck are you trying to do to me?!?" My level seems to be at 1600 net. If I start to think I'm smarter than MFP and eat less than my goal to try to speed up my weight loss, it always backfires. Eat right at your goal, healthy food of course, and just keep doing that. It will happen, it just takes time. Good luck!

Don't be discourage. I was told by my trainer that it takes almost a month to see true results. Don't obessed with the scale and just focus and continue to do what you've been doing! If you're consistent with eating well and working out diligently, you'll see your weight go down in no time!! Keep at it, you're doing the right thing!!

"most day I dont reach 1000"

That's a problem. At your weight, try 1400 net with the exercise. You will also have a bit of a gain at the beginning of most new workouts. http://www.choose2befit.com/2009/09/11/why-you-gain-weight-with-a-new-program/

    just keep "swimming" :)

it's only been 5 days...not long enough for major changes in your body or habits, although you are off to a good start.

try to eat at least 1000-1200 NET calories (after exercise) per day...

    drinks lots of water...

    and just keep "swimming"

    it gets easier ;)

It hasn't even been 1 week yet. It's hard, but you have to be patient. The slower it comes off, the longer it stays off! :)
Also, you said you don't reach 1000 calories most days. That is WAY too low. Your net calories shouldn't be less than 1200. I'm not sure what your metabolic rate is, but you should probably be consuming more than that even. Especially if you're working out. Your body will hold on to the calories you eat if you're not eating enough to fuel it.

you should be at least eating 1200 calories for your body to maintain properly. If you dont feed it enough it will try to store the food instead of burn it off.
They are right that you should only weigh yourself once a week. I weigh myself every day BUT I dont let it consume me.. I just look at what it says.. knowing there are fluctuations between days and between times of day that you weigh and then forget about it and not worry about it until my weigh day.
I make sure that the day before I am going to weigh that I dont go crazy on my sodium as that can change your weight in a heartbeat.
Be patient and remember that this is a lifestyle change and it doesnt matter if the pound comes off today,, tomorrow or the next as long as it comes off!

try to resist the urge to step on the scale more than once a week. Pick one day and make that your official "weigh day". My day is every Sunday morning.

Take your measurements and keep a record of them because you are sure to lose inches with the 30 Day Shred.

most importantly! stick with it! you will get past this and see results that are going to motivate you to keep on keeping on!

I have to agree with sweebum. Also, try to only weigh yourself once a week and at the same time of day. Your weight will fluctuate throughout the day and that's perfectly normal. Additionally, whenever starting a new exercise program (especially one that involves strength training), your muscles will retain some water. You are doing a great job - stick with it and you'll be fine! :) Definitely try to give your body the fuel it needs though and eat a bit more.
