It is a common issue when you first reduce carbs from your diet and is often referred to as the "keto flu". Salt from broth or other sources can help relieve the symptoms. I strongly recommend talk to your Doc b4 you do that diet. It may have its awesome results but it can also cause lots of health issues. I know bc I did that same Atkins diet when I was 18 and a result to it I had tachycardia. Please I strongly recommend that!!! I wish someone could've told me that back then. Not trying to bring you down just trying to look out for ya.

From what I have seen its normal. Make sure you are getting fiber. And a person should eat plant foods at least once a day.

The first time i did keto (similar to atkins), i got keto flu pretty bad. Sugar free powerade really helps in a pinch. You can even get it in concentrate bottles (like that mio stuff) so it's easier to carry around. I wouldn't recommend using it too often because it IS a processed food, but it can help in the first weeks.

    DRINK ENOUGH WATER!!!!

A solid broth helps too. I prefer the herbox brand chicken in loose powder. Boil a cup of water, put it in a mug, then add a pat of butter and a a teaspoon of the powder. It tastes delicious and really gives you a boost with literally zero carbs. Having soup once a day will keep the flu away!

Easy 10 minute soup: Two cups of water, teaspoon of broth, one chopped celery stalk, a handfull of cilantro (kidney support), about a cup of frozen greens (spinach/collard/mustard etc). Simmer for about 8 minutes just until the veggies are wilted. Over cooking your veggies really drops their nutritional content.

On a side note, low carb diets can sometimes put a lot of pressure on your kidneys and liver. I recommend this easy tea to have every morning and periodically throughout the day. It's best warm and wont spoil sitting on the counter all day.
Grab your teapot and fill it with water (mine is 2L). Slice half a lemon and half a lime very thin and add it to the pot. Then grate about a tablespoon of FRESH ginger (it has to be fresh). Put that in a tea ball infuser. If you dont have a ball, you can add it loose but you may find a few pieces in your cup (it doesnt taste bad). Lastly, add two green tea bags. Let that all steep for a good 20 minutes. Drink one full mug at least 3 times a day. This really helps flush your body of toxins, aids in digestion, and makes your kideneys and liver happy! It does add about 3g carbs to your day (most of the carby part ends up staying intact in the friut, the heat draws out the good stuff), but it's a small price to pay for how great it makes you feel!!

I agree! Yep, sounds like you've got some symptoms of the keto flu. You need to up your sodium (salt) intake! Try dissolving a bouillon cube in the appropriate amount of water and drinking that.

Ditto. 3000-5000 mg of sodium per day, along with some extra potassium and magnesium, will probably have you feeling well soon. Try drinking broth, salt your food, add a teaspoon of sat to water, or even drink pickle water. It sounds extreme but it works.

    Best wishes
