Is it ok to workout with sore muscles?

I only have 15-20lbs to lose, so I wanted to gradually work some strength training into my routine. I have planned out my week to include strength training on my total gym Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, then work in some extra walks throughout the week as my schedule allows. Well it happens that this week I also started a bowling league on Monday, so between that and my workout on Tuesday, I am still slightly sore this morning. Is it still OK, to do my normal workout this evening? The great thing about the total gym is it incorporates stretching into the workout, which I know would be beneficial. Thoughts?

Slightly sore or hurting? If you're only a bit sore, that's normal. You're supposed to feel something after you use muscles more than you've used them before. But if you are hurting, you are damaged and should wait until you heal.

If you're just sore and not injured(you would know), getting to your workout will be the hardest part and it will be all mental. I've found working out when sore will actually make the muscles feel better.

If it wasn't OK; I never would be able to work out regularly. Like mentioned above, if soreness is severe, you may want to take a day or two off. A tip to combat leg soreness: At the end of a heavy leg day workout; get on the bike for 10-15 mins at light resistance. It will greatly reduce soreness.

If it's slightly sore, I'd say you can keep going as long as it doesn't bother you. if it does, then you might need a rest day. I take two rest days a week even though I only do cardio.

Just slightly sore today, definately not injured (I was very athletic in high school and know what pulled/torn muscles feel like). I guess I am more out of shape than I thought because I didn't expect to still be feeling it today! I am going to push through tonight. Thanks for your responses.

You can take an otc pain reliever if it bothers you and maybe try stretching first to reduce some of the soreness

I usually find that working through the soreness helps it to feel better, but if it's really bad, taking a day or two off in the beginning can really help.
