So I'm thinking of doing black bean and rice burritos for breakfast. Of course adding veggies and chicken or turkey maybe. I don't like eggs, cottage cheese or yogurts, I'm looking for alternatives.
What are some thoughts or ideas on this?
Is it a good or bad idea and why?
Please help me

Assuming they fit into your calorie & macro goals, there's nothing wrong with this. Sounds pretty tasty actually.0

Thank you. I'm so unsure of what to make and what to eat so I'm trying to think of different things.0 -
You don't have to eat the things you don't like. Just make sure you are weighing the items you put in them and make it fit the calorie goal you have for breakfast.
Adding veg would make them bigger and fill you up more, but again it's all up to what you want.0 -
Any food can work while losing weight, even pizza, ice cream, doughnuts, etc..
If you like burritos (i know i do) and they fill you up and keep you on track then go for it.
And whatever you do, dont forget the salsa.1 -

Thank you. I'm open to trying almost anything. I'm not eating nearly enough food a day to even fuel my body kinda thing. So I want to try new manners I guess.

Burritos are yummy. Any recommendations on what to try that are simple to make. Sadly I've never actually made one.0 -

Very easiest burrito in my arsenal: Open can of refried beans. Mix with salsa. Put on tortilla (add any other toppings you like).
Next easiest: Take can of pinto or black beans and mix with 1 cup salsa and chili powder (I use 2 teaspoons). Mash some of the beans. Put on tortilla (add any other toppings you like).
Feeling fancier: Chop some vegetables and saute in olive oil (onions, peppers, cabbage). Or add some roasted vegetables (onions, peppers, brussels sprouts or broccoli if you're feeling non-traditional). Plain rice is a bit "meh" for me in burritos -- I do like putting some chopped herbs (like cilantro) and lime juice in rice and adding that.

The sound so yummy. I know what I'm buying at the store on Friday. Everything to make different burritos. I'm way more excited than I should be lol.0 -

Join the club! I always get excited about burritos.0 -
And now....I'm hungry for Chipotle TYVM0
-
For my goals I would probably do a rice/bean bowl versus a burrito (I try to only have one "carb" choice per meal to keep balance for myself) but that sounds versatile!0
-
We went through a stage where we made a pile of burritos on sunday for the week. We did black beans, brown rice, and butternut squash (and cheese). They were super yummy!0
-
I have a problem with tortillas, they are too carby for me and they make me gain weight (also they taste so yummy that I always eat like three)....
When I was pregnant I pretty much lived on black beans and stewed tomatoes wrapped up in a tortilla... I gained crap loads of weight and ended up with gestational diabetes.
So I would say that a burrito is fine as long as you can stick to one, or if you aren't as sensitive to carbs as I am.0 -
I'm so hungry right now. Im very excited, thank you everyone.0
-
I mix rice with black beans, corn and salsa and wrap in a tortilla and Ive had it for breakfast a few times the last few weeks. Its good:)0
-
Pico Pico Pico!!!! ...... Dont forget sliced avocado!0
-
Its contagious. Now I want a burrito (or 3).0

The low carb/high fiber large wraps are between 70-90 calories each, as an FYI. La Tortilla Factory, Ole Wellness, and Fiber One all have them.
I like to make them for my family (but I usually do half vegetables, 1/4 rice, and 1/4 meat of some sort and I flash freeze them (seam side down directly on a metal baking sheet) and transfer them to a bag when they're frozen. When I want to serve them, I microwave until thawed and just crisp under a broiler.0 -

Rice and beans both have carbohydrates, so if one is only having one source of carbohydrates in a meal that wouldn't work. That said, the combination of rice, beans, and tortilla is satisfying and sustaining for many people and doesn't make them feel unbalanced.0 -
I agree with people who say eat what you like when you like, all according to your plan parameters. That said, I am pretty proud of the fact that recently I made my first batch of enchiladas AND sauce, and it was pretty darn good!!0

I rarely like breakfast for breakfast (breakfast for dinner is awesome). I used to eat whatever I wanted for breakfast. Leftovers from the night before, salads, whatever. Now, I don't really bother, just have coffee in the morning and have a protein shake and a spoonful of peanut butter as a mid-morning snack.
Just find what works for you. No reason to thing of breakfast as only being certain kinds of food.0 -

If I eat breakfast it's usually dinner left overs- I can barely get my *kitten* out the door in an efficient manner- so left overs works much better for me.
It doesn't matter what you eat as long as it fits your goals calorie and macro wise.0 -

If you're not hungry, you don't have to force yourself if you can get your calories in later in the day (I love larger dinners, so I try to save a majority of my calories for dinner).0 -

If I don't force myself to eat something than I only take in 700 calories or so. Or eat one small thing. I think I would lose weight if I actually ate.0 -

We must teach you the ways of eating very calorie dense foods...
I could probably eat your calorie goal in one sitting. Want a burrito, I could easily do a 1000 calorie, nutrient dense one:
tortilla, quac, shredded cheese, chicken (or sliced steak if you want high calories), rice, beans, corn, and pica de gallo.
Seriously, high calorie is very easy. You could even have your burrito later in the day or modify your eating schedule to slide all your meals right. Breakfast at 10am, lunch at 3pm, dinner at 8pm. Or eliminate the first, and add in two snacks or one snack and one desert.
High calorie, high nutrient foods: avocado, oils (olive, coconut), butters (peanut, almond), cheese (I could literally eat a brick), oatmeal with protein powder, chocolate milk with a scoop of protein, Cliff Builder bar, red meats (marinade them for extra calories), bacon, eggs, more bacon, dark fish (salmon and tuna) and most importantly... even more bacon.0 -
I love the John Soules frozen fajita meat for burritos--either the steak or chicken. I eat them all the time, although I switched from burrito shells to the Old El Paso Soft Taco Boat tortillas. They are only 80 calories a piece. They're a fast, filling meal--lots of protein & fiber. I've had days where I've missed a meal & ended up really low in calories as well. Since I've had WLS, I can't just eat more at the next meal to make up for it. On those days, a serving of nuts & a serving of cheese can give you a lot of calories with little volume.0
