Sodium

I go over sodium most of the time, but usually not by too much. I don't eat a lot of processed food, things just add up fast. Who knew there was sodium in milk???

Today's mostly came from my chili, which I made with a bunch of canned veggies and beans, because it's cheap (I'm a poor college student). So I know that a lot came from that.

I know that a lot of sodium will make me bloat and see less results, so is there any ideas you have for cutting back while still being cheap, and accounting for the extremely limited refrigerator space I have?

I'm the same- I tend to go over on sodium a lot. One thing I do to stay low for breakfast which is high protein, high fiber, and low sodium is a bowl of Kashi Crunch with 1/2 cup of skim milk: 233 cals, 3g fat, 13g protein, and only 164mg sodium. Keeps me full for a long time. A box of Kashi Crunch lasts me about 10 days and it's only 5 bucks...

Also, I have an app on my phone that helps me to drink 16 cups of water per day. That helps me to stay full/get enough water.

Provided you don't already have heart disease, sodium has a near zero effect on overall health. If you have high blood pressure, carbohydrate consumption has a 10x greater effect on your BP than sodium.

Also if you dont want a lot of sodium, you could always either get the low sodium varieties of food. Or if that gets too expensive you can rinse the veggies out of a can. They are stored in salt water to keep them fresh, but that doesnt mean you need to eat them that way :)

You can buy "no added salt" canned veges. Starting with dried beans instead of canned also cuts out the salt, and is much cheaper, too, though it takes a little more planning.

    canned veggies = high sodium

Like...beyond reasonable amounts. I always want to eat canned black beans until I see they have over 900mg of sodium per 1/2 cup, ridiculous.

Try looking for low sodium canned veggies or even shopping at places like SaveAlot (low cost grocery shop).

I was angry when I found out that celery has sodium lol...I though it was 0's across the board.

I use a lot of canned stuff (busy mom and wife!) but I buy the low sodium stuff...it makes a BIG difference!

This is true, however, it does make you retain water and makes you bloat. When I cut my sodium by half, my puffy belly went away within a week even though I didn't lose any weight!
