Good GPS & mile counter on iPhone?

I hope what I'm asking here makes sense. I would like to be able to map my walks on my iPhone using the GPS so that I can see how many miles i've walked then work out my speed. Does such a thing exsist? So it works out where i'm walking as I go, and tells me the miles at the end? I can work out the other stuff, so that doesn't matter. I know I can plan my walk afterwards to work it out, which is fine with road walking, but when I'm hiking in the country it's not so easy!

Any suggestions please?

Cardiotrainer! It's free and completely awesome for running, walking and cycling. It seems to be pretty accurate on calorie burn if you keep your settings up to date, and like MFP has an online equivalent. It gives you time, distance, speed, average speed, steps, metres climbed and tracks your route on a map so you don't get lost if you take a new route. There's a graph of your speed over time too so you can see how you progress during the course of it. I use it nearly every day!

When you get your calories burned it tells you what you can eat. Sadly, this is usually in the form of fruit and veg rather than pizza!

I use RunKeeper on Iphone. It does exactly what you want; log your route, distance, speed, calories burnt and it even has a coaching option too. And it's free!

I use Nikegps+ for runs, but I guess it would work with walks too! I really really like it.
I also have mapmyfitness which I do use for walks and has always been fairly accurate I believe. I prefer the Nike one for how it stores your past walks etc. But the mapmyfitness one is still pretty good!

I find it invaluable now, all those walks that I'd logged as "2mph slow pace" were actually 3.5mph and I was wildly underestimating my speed! I also find if helps keep my speed up, if I find I'm starting to drop below 3mph I pick it up a bit!

I use pedometer (free version).. It tracs your steps, distance (I think you can chose miles or kilometers). It also tells your calories, How many minutes, Speed, and Avg speed for whole trip. I have checked out a few but I love this one so far. This one has a shoe on the icon...

There is also a Pedometer Free with GPS

Was using sporty pal but have just moved over to endomondo, nice calendar based app on the web and super easy to use on the phone.

  • I have used both Runkeeper and Nike+, both are similar in terms of performance and both seem to cut corners and underestimate my runs.
Beacause of this what I end up using (though not automated is gmaps pedometer when I get home)

I use the pedometer pro and is only £1.79 on iTunes, the best one I have used and I have tried a few of the free ones before deciding to buy the one I have. You can do your laps and save it all and it shows you the maps plus you can log you weight, waist & chest measurements plus it also tells you the speed you walked and the calories you have burned. It suits me perfectly for what I want.

I love run keeper, and nike +GPS. The difference between, is Nike has a section where they show your speed on your route. Both were free, so download them and see what you like better!

Thank you. I'll have a good look when I get home and download a couple of the free ones to start with :)
