I lost the weight but.....

I lost the weight, passed my goal in fact, without any exercise. I just can't get started and lord knows I need it. I need a motivator or something or someone to help me get started. I see all the programs offered and the challenges, but they aren't for someone like me. I have had both hips replaced, both knees and a shoulder. The left hip has dislocated FIVE times. I'm not allowed on my knees, because you can't get on metal knees, it is quite painful especially now that I have lost 64 pounds, no cushion anymore. And the shoulder is doing okay but I have had 3 bad falls last year that has set my progress back a bit. I have a treadmill, a stationary bike, a Gazelle and one of those large exercise balls. Which I have to figure out how to let some air out of. I just can't get started. Can anyone help put me on the path to exercising regularly?? I know it's up to me, I just need a push! Or a swift kick in the *kitten*, as I like to say.

Put on some comfortable shoes and go walk around the block ... or to the park ... or up that street you've never been on ... or to the local shopping centre ...

And then do it again tomorrow.

    It's as easy as that.

I'm quite limited because of medical problems too. I'm starting on going to water aerobics. It's very low impact but a surprisingly goo way to use all sorts of muscles.

How about joining a gym with exercise in a pool with a group? Paying for the gym motivates me and having other people in the class motivates me to try harder and not to leave the class.

Yeah, I agree that you just have to start doing SOMETHING. A lot of times, having interesting scenery makes it feel like less of a chore.

I made a commitment a year ago to just walk 10-15 minutes on my treadmill. It's amazing how quickly this became a habit. Within a couple of months I was doing 30 minutes every day. By April I was walking outside, swimming and feeling great! Now I just feel weird on days that I don't exercise.

    Here's what I did:

Make a list of the reasons you want to exercise.

Put them at the top of a calendar.

Make a goal for yourself, commit to it by writing it on the calendar, too.

Decide on a reward that you will give yourself when you follow through. It could be daily, weekly or monthly or all three!

Learn from your mistakes, but keep going, don't quit!

Keep track of your progress on the calendar and celebrate your victories!

A pool would be your best bet. However, you should be seeing a physiotherapist who can help you determine what is in your ability to do.

I agree, but be aware that swimming with shoulder problems can be difficult if you choose free style or the back stroke. I had surgery in both shoulders so I have some "painful" experiences in the mater.
Do ask the doctor for a PT referral so you can get specialized exercises for your condition. In the mean time walking is a good choice.

Get a pedometer or a Fitbit. Give yourself a daily goal and get moving.

Check with a physical therapist about certain Tai Chi and Yoga moves.
Both of them will help you improve your balance and prevent falls.

Get an appointment with a physical therapist and ask what to do. You can either design a program together or he can give recommendations on what to do. In your case, exercise is not about weight loss or maintenance, and you need instructions from a specialist.
