Spinning NSV :)

So, yesterday I had my first spinning class. Boy was I in for a wake up call!! I got there and everyone was doing their spinning while standing ... and I hardly could stand more than a few seconds. I never stopped pedaling, but it was so hard... here I am, a 22 year old woman, and there were older women in there who put me to SHAME!!
after the first 20 minutes, i was dead on wheels, i felt like a total failure. i could see the instructor keep looking over at me and i knew he was thinking "i should recommend another class to her or something, she's really struggling." ... i could just tell. everyone else seemed like they had no problem standing the entire time, i could hardly stand at all. i tried various times through the class, and could only do it a few times and had to stop every time. I honestly looked at the clock and thought of leaving and finding a treadmil and walking for a while.
i stuck around for 30 minutes, and then the instructor got off his bike and started making a round to everyone in the class, just seeing how everyone is doing, etc. I was hoping he'd suggest something better I could do, another intro class or something. He gets to me and says "hey there! how ya doin so far??" i told him "I'm good, hanging in there, haha" ... and he looks at me with a smile and says "well, I am really glad to have you here. Keep up the good work" and he said it in a really sweet tone, i knew he wasn't being sympathetic. he was actually PROUD of me, regardless of sitting down.
Then it hit me... so what if i couldn't stand up the whole time... I'm HERE. I can't expect to be perfect at it already, that leaves no margin for improvement. I didn't feel bad after that, i finished off the class, and I'm pretty darn happy about it

girlfriend, the fact that you did a spinning class at all is a major accomplishment! I don't think I could ever do one of those... I have trouble using the stationary bike I have at my apt, bc it is like the ones used in spinning classes and I prefer the ones with the back to lean on so if I were in your shoes I'd be sitting down too!
Keep going, you will be standing up in no time!!!!!!0 -
Good job! I love spinning, with the right instructor and music it's such a good workout and stress reliever.
And also, if it makes you feel any better, standing and pedaling on a spin bike is a bit easier than sitting, because you have your body weight to help you work the pedals. When you're sitting you use more muscle.0 -
Congrats on making it through the class, I know ppl who can't even last 15 full minutes. I love spinning, I get a great workout and feel like I accomplished something after. If you keep it up it gets easier and your butt get used to the seat after about the third class or so.
Keep up the good work!!0 -
thanks everyone! I agree, after some time the standing would be easier. For right now though the sitting is easier for me. I know when I was younger and rode bicycles for fun, standing was definitely easier... so perhaps it's the weight i have gained. Either way, I'm glad I finished, so thanks everyone for the support!
My bottom definitely hurts today, but i'm glad to say, so do my legs! If they didn't i'd think i waisted a class... but, I have Zumba tonight with my favorite instructor, so I'm looking forward to seeing how well I can do with that, haha. I was a dancer for 9 years. and while i haven't danced since the 8th grade, It's funny how those old habits have made me pick up the Zumba pretty well.
I'm not sure when the next spinning class is, but I know i'll be ready for it once my bottom isn't so sore. thank goodness for a cushioned seat at work! :laugh:0 -
Told you it wold be a kick in the butt!!! It's a great class though and I enjoy mine every week. After the soreness goes away you will find yourself looking forward to a good sweat inducing class!!! I'm actually upset I'm going to miss mine next week. I'm just glad you made it through the whole thing and aren't discouraged by the what you didn't do. It's important to remember that it's more important to focus on what we were able to do and our accomplishments than what we weren't able to do.0

Great Job!!! I went to the gym at my apartment and I looked at the spinning room and I was so intimidated I walked out without even doing anything! So stupid I know! I thought maybe if I had other people there to kind of follow with I would be able to do it and I went to LA Fitness and I got scared again so major kudos to you girl!!!0
