You should eat something smaller (I've heard around or less then 200 cals) as soon as you can to help your body refuel. It will definitely help you not binge later from being even more hungry.

I always eat before and after a workout. Before is usually light, a handful of almonds or protein drink. After when I am starving is typically a big meal, with as much protein as I can manage.

what kind of workout are you talking about?? I suggest a protein shake. You need protein to help your muscles recover and its best to get it within an hour or two of working out. Immediately after my workout and stretch I make and drink a protein shake!!

Not true. In fact you have it completely backward.

The 30-60 minute timeframe following exercise is the single most important time of the day to get protein. The enzymes and hormones in your muscles are actively repairing and rebuilding exercise-induced damage as well as replenishing glycogen stores, so they are especially receptive to nutrients. By supplying a post-workout recovery protein containing whey and casein during this "window" of opportunity, you'll help ensure that you're recharged and ready for your next training session.

The first twenty minutes after a work out is the optimum time to ingest nutrients as your body is still working at a more efficient rate than at rest. This is the perfect time to take your protein (whether dietary or supplimentary), you could choose a whole chicken breast with no skin that has been poached or dry fried, or alternatively a protein shake. Be wary of protein bars as they often contain a lot of sugar and preservatives. Choose a low carbohydrate protein skake that has been designed specifically for women, Maximuscle do a good range as to "Pro peptide"which is the one I use.

30-60 minutes following a workout is when you should eat something. It's the "window of opportunity." :) Shoot for high protein, zero fat, some carbs (yes, they are good for you lol).
