Dessert, should I?

If im under my calorie goals is it advisable to reach in for a sweet treat after dinner or not? Of course, I would reach in for a low cal dessert and not go over my calories but if I really want to lose weight should I even go after dessert in the first place. I don't why but after dinner I always crave something sweet - I'm trying to figure out what to do with that craving.

    I eat sweet treats all the time. I NEED something sweet after a meal. :)

    Yes. I love sweets too and if I don't have them occasionally I am sure I would just break down and have a day with nothing but sweets. Everything in moderation. :)

    I have something sweet every night. If I didn't I would not be at 90 pounds down right now, I would have fallen off of the wagon a LONG time ago.

    I do! I have a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich. My b/f is in love with ice cream, so this way, while he's eating his bowl of creamy tastiness, I can have my pre-portioned, low cal version. I'm sure a lot of folks will say no, don't have dessert, but to me this is a lifestyle change and I know I will be very very unhappy if I can't have a dessert after dinner. So I found one that is easy to build into my daily limits.

    Theres nothing wrong with it as long as its low in sugar and not too late at night. If you limit yourself too much you will be more likely to relapse. Jell-o sugar free pudding cups come in all different flavors and are only 60 cals.

    It's okay.....but not if you are doing it out of habit!!...Break the cycle....sugar has been know to be one of our worst enemies!

    If you're within your cals and fats and sugars then why not treat yourself to something you enjoy?
    Nobody said you have to eat fruit and veggies ALL the time :happy:

    Occasionally I feel the need for junk food and I try not to deny myself too much or else I just fixate on it. Obviously the less junk and the more healthy stuff you eat, the better you will feel....but sometimes you just have to cave in. If you don't want to cave every day maybe try fruit after dinner? An apple does wonders for a sweet craving.

    Lately, after dinner, I have one Trader Joe's Vanilla Ice Cream Bon Bon. It's vanilla ice cream on top of a bit of chocolate cookie/cake, covered entirely in chocolate. It's a very small portion (just one!) but since it's real ingredients (not diet versions), it's very sweet and satisfying. It's only 60 calories but best of all? Low carb (6g) and low sugar (5g).

    It'll take a little bit of willpower to eat just one but so far, I've been able to!

    Since I have a sweet tooth and I really crave a dessert after dinner, my trainer also recommended eating a few frozen grapes. Just a few though! Grapes are really, really high in sugar. I haven't tried it yet though. Even though fruit is sweet, I have a mental block as far as considering them a 'dessert'.

    Of course, every once in a while (about once a month or so), I go all out and have a big slice of cake at a local restaurant here. It's okay to have a treat day as long as they are not too often!
