Carbs before and protein after. It's really your choice. I prefer some fresh fruit before I workout and I usually wind up having a protein shake or bar afterward.

I like to eat half a tuna fish sandwich on wholegrain toast before and the other half after.

Or if Im in a rush, I eat a banana on the way to the gym, eat half a tuna fish sandwich after.

    My pre and post are...

Pre- Natural PB on whole grain bread (about 2 hours before)

Post- Chocolate milk or green tea (depending on how hard I pushed it)

I've heard bananas or a little bit of peanut butter (or both) are great pre-workout. Agree with protein after workout.

Pre: Oatmeal with nuts or PBJ
    Post: Chocolate milk

Chocolate milk has the perfect carbs to protein ratio for recovery after an intense workout. Yay!

I work out first thing in the morning and can't really stomach a lot before I start. I usually have a smoothie, banana or strawberry, before, and some protein (peanut butter, protein bar, etc.) afterwards.

    LOL ya know???

I have found, and don't shoot me for this, but if I have a couple slices of pizza the night before a long ride, I can go out there and kick *kitten* for miles and miles and miles. It's nice, because it's the only time I can eat pizza guilt-free. I *think* I burn off two slices by the time I've completed 65+ miles, LOL
