Acid reflux since starting new diet and exercise...

I am not eating anything specifically different than usual. Except that when I have bread we are home baking it.
I have cut my calorie intake to 1200 eating veggies/ meat ..... Having lots of water.... No soft drinks and only one coffee a day. I am also doing more exercise than usual. Would any of these things be a specific cause?
Has anyone else experienced this when starting a new eating regime?
Any advice on how to stop this?
Thanks

Not normal. Keep notes on your food log at the bottom of when it happens. Ex: bread at 8pm, reflux at 9. Have you switched how you make your coffee? It can give you reflux. Pregnancy gave me reflux. Are you laying down after eating? If you smoke, stop.0

My reflux got better, not worse. Do you already take omeprazole (the over-the-counter version of Nexium)? If you do, you might try what our gastric doc recommended: take it in the morning, all at once no matter whether it's one pill or more in your usual dose, then wait 30 minutes before eating something. He says this gives the drug a chance to become available and then be "activated" by the food stimulating acid production in the stomach. Sure enough, my symptoms disappeared abruptly when I started taking it this way. On days when I get distracted and wait more than 30 minutes, mild symptoms recur. These days, if I forget and let too much time go by, I just take another pill and wait 30 minutes again, no problem.0

Also the usual advice: don't eat less than 3 hours before bedtime, don't take ibuprofen on an empty stomach or late at night, etc.0

Do you exercise soon after eating?0

@azyryn See a doctor. Sometimes it means you're not producing enough acid to digest the food in you gut, so it is rising up. You won't know until you're tested. Best wishes.0

Is your stomach empty more often than before? That can do it. Good non-acidic foods are sweet potatoes, greens like kale, and bananas aren't bad. Milk is fine to good. Avoid things like citrus and tomatoes on an empty stomach, at least. Eating more frequently is recommended if you do go long periods without eating now. I don't know how much you'd need to eat, but maybe try a little non-trigger snack.
I do have GERD and have for years. I take high dose meds for mine and watch my diet for triggers. Coffee is so bad on my stomach that I use this instant, acid-neutralized kind called Kava. You might try cutting back on coffee or drinking less in lots of milk until your stomach feels better, and then you can see if adding it back in works. Sometimes things just get more irritated and need a week or two of 'healing' time in my experience.0 -
Hi thanks for the replies, no I don't exercise after eating, I am a non smoker, not currently taking any meds as I have never had this issue before.......
I am probably a bit emptier than ususal because of the calorie cut back, but am still eating frequently... So that might be it... (Hopefully I am not pregnant! Lol!) I will try some non acidic foods and keep an eye on it in the next day or two on my log... If it isn't stopping will hit up my doctors.
Thanks for the advice, now I know it isn't a common thing I will be cautious.0 -
I take meds for mine and I notice if I drink too much water it makes mine worse. so I have to pace myself when it comes to drinking my water. but see a dr. not treating it can cause other health issues in some cases.but for some like me,changing diet didnt improve mine. wish it had though. chocolate sometimes is another trigger. lots of things can trigger it and its different for everyone. sometimes stress can trigger it too. I know that from experience.0
