Mirrors and Measurements

So, I'm at Zumba last night, right up front and center where I've been for the last 2 years and I was getting discouraged because my tummy looked so fat in the mirror. No matter which way I turned, there it was and I thought to myself, my God, I'm not getting anywhere here. So I'm salsa'ing my butt off and getting madder and madder as the class went on. I seriously considered quitting and just accepting that I may never have the flat abs I've lusted after all these years. That they were just going to remain hidden under my little muffin top forever.

This morning I weighed and I'm at the lowest I've been in years. I looked in MY mirror and thought my tummy looked way better than in the gym mirror, so I decided to measure. I'm down two inches!

That'll teach me not to use mirrors and scales as a measure of my success. How many times will it take before that finally sinks in with me?? :ohwell:

Some mirrors are so deceiving! I bought this new shirt at lululemon and in their change room I thought I looked great! But, when I see myself in the mirrors at the gym it doesn't look that great! Why can't every mirror be a lululemon mirror :)

Don't trust mirrors! Weight and measurements are more accurate!

Mirrors and Scales can be worst then Triple Loop Roller coasters. That is the same as fitting room Mirrors! They can make you put the Clothes right back on the Rack

Very frustrating isn't it!?! Personally, even with a measuring tape it can differ so much - one day there's TOM, one day water retention, one day this and one day that....my stomach measure differently quite a bit. So I guess we have to just use a combination of the scale, fat analyzer, and measuring tape. Oh and mostly patience ( something I don't have a lot of!)

You are doing it Sun - just stay the course!!!!

Thanks you guys. I mean honestly, I've been on this journey for years now. I KNOW scales lie, etc. But man, those mirrors! I just about came undone last night and today I feel like a whole different person!

The best measurement is rthe way your clothes fit :-). We never see ourselves as we really are. The images we see are often worse than others see us lol. I have a favorite Cartoon tthat highlighted the difference in body image between guys and girls. A gal is looking in the mirror (she has a really nice shape) and what she sees is an overweight big bellied person. A guy is looking in the mirror (with a really big beer gut) and sees a man with a 6 pack set lol What we see is not always reality lol.

nice to know i'm not the only one. it's so strange too how one mirror shows differently than another. i tell you i so don't like the mirrored walls when i'm working out (yes we have them in zumba too) - but i just put on a pair a capris this morning that didn't fit a week ago and they slipped right on so i KNOW i'm doing something right. :D

thanks for this. makes me feel better.
