It depends on what your trigger foods are so as to avoid them, you may also want to check that it is diet related as it may be another issue. Could also be a matter of being overweight (if you are overweight that is), so losing weight may be beneficial.
Find out what your trigger foods are and eliminate them.

Have you seen your doctor? They should be able to give you some medication that helps x0

Mine was beginning to get me down, so I went to the drs, she gave me a course that latest one month, sorry can't remember the name. It reduced after that but then again my eating habits changed too. Eating less fried food, eating less in general. I think what's really helped plus late night snacking for me has almost disappeared.
Touch wood now I don't get any attacks in the day or night0 -
I had this for a while a few years ago and I found that tomatoes were a problem, so I cut way down. Eventually it pretty much went away on its own.0

Pay attention to your bouts with it and make sure you record everything so you can see what your triggers are. For me, it was mostly high fat and/or high acid foods. I had to limit cheese, tomato sauce (raw tomatoes were not a problem), citrus fruits, fried foods, etc. I also had to change how I slept by sleeping on my back with my upper body raised a little.
One warning, please follow your doctor's recommendation if he suggests something like an acid blocker or PPI. I did not and ended up in the hospital with severe anemia from gastric bleeds caused by erosion from the reflux.
With the weight I have lost, I have no more reflux and only occasionally take a pill (and my erosion healed so no more anemia).0 -
I've got both gerd and reflux and another underlying condition which leads to ulcer/irritations. I have prescription strength Zantac and had prescription prevacid. I also avoid bell peppers and super spicy foods.
High fat or high sugar can give me an "episode." A banana set me off one day
I used to have to eat plain food but the medicine has given me some semblance of a normal life with food
and pay attention what your doctor says0 -
I spent the money and went to see a nutritionist after my doctor gave me a prescription for Prilosec. It was WELL worth it. The nutritionist started me off on a very mild diet (think monochromatic mush -- graham crackers, milk, puffed wheat, the occasional broiled chicken) and we have added things as I feel like I can manage them. Best to stay away from any alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, citrus fruit and anything with tomatoes until you know what's most likely to set you off. If you don't have insurance that covers a nutritionist check into community resources. I'm a member of the YMCA and they have a free nutritionist on staff. Basically, nutritionist are the bomb and I hope you feel better!0
