Tired all the time

I am so tired all the time. Whether I eat healthy or not, whether I'm exercising 4-5 hrs a week or not. Whether I drink that day or don't (or haven't been drinking for days-alcohol and caffeine included). I sleep 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night, and my partner says I don't snore. My only blood work issue is low vitamin D, but I've been taking supplements regularly for maybe about a year now. I'm always just so mentally and physically tired, no matter what I do. Does anyone else have this issue, and if so, has anything helped you?

I struggle with that too. Personally the only time I feel good the majority of the time is when I'm consistent with my habits for at least a few weeks. I also need more than 8 hours sleep. Some people need up to 10 hours. I would suggest speaking to your doctor as there may be another underlying issue and give yourself a really good month. Eat healthy, hydrate, go to bed at the same time. Good luck.0

I struggled with this for a while about 2 years ago.
4 years ago I decided to become more healthy and lost about 75 pounds and was super active with all this energy. Then 3 years ago I met my husband and things changed. My lifestyle changed from having a very active job to a sedentary job. I didn't want to try and fit exercising in as much as I had been previously (I enjoyed being with my husband much more than running!) and I stopped being super strict with eating and just went with the flow. All of a sudden during the summer of the year that I met my husband and at the start of the life style changes I felt just exhausted 24/7. I felt like no matter what I did I was always SO TIRED!
This made it even HARDER to be motivated to work out and eat well. Then before I knew it I'd gained 15 pounds.
Now that I've re dedicated myself and have been back on a consistent schedule for at least a month I've found that I've had so much more energy than I've had this entire 3 years. Yes there are still some days where I'll feel super sluggish and tired because maybe I had a bad nights sleep. But overall I feel energized and so happy to be back in my routine.
A lot of things can affect our energy levels, hormones, depression, the TYPES of foods we're eating, genetics...etc. Maybe start at your general practitioner and just tell them you feel super tired all the time?
Do you have a super stressful job? Do you suffer from depression? Do any genetic disorders run in your family that can effect energy levels? What TYPES of food are you eating? WHEN do you eat? Ask yourself these questions and take note of the pattern of your energy lapses.
You may just need to find a new routine that works for YOU and stick it out for a couple of weeks. Try yoga! I love yoga and always find it revitalizes me.0 -
I find that since I've been at a sedentary job I've been more tired too. I've been trying to exercise harder and spend some time outside every day, even for a short walk, and a low dose (10mg) iron and B vitamin supplement has been helping me get to my RDA for both. Some of fatigue can be mental - might be worth some introspection as to whether you're feeling down in general. Good luck.0

Some really good suggestions above. Sleep study is a very good idea. It will tell you how well you are actually sleeping. If you drink caffeine routinely a few days without it may not be long enough to get rid of the effects. I find I get exhausted for mental reasons mostly boredom at work and if my house is messy. I am one of those people who can't concentrate if my environment is messy. When my house gets messy I feel more tired. If I am not being challenged at work I feel that effects my energy levels.0

Winter does that to me. The combination of cold weather and lack of sunshine. I use a blue light for seasonal affective disorder. It really helps.0

Yeah it might be winter...it's been grey for several days in a row. As I mentioned in my original post, I don't have any signs of sleep apnea, and I have had a blood panel done so I'm ruling out any deficiencies, other than vitamin D. I'm seeing a nutritionist next week (free with my employer's health care program!) to talk about when/what I'm eating - although I'm a biologist so I'm pretty aware of how nutrition and digestion work. I'm also thinking of making an appointment for a fitness evaluation, maybe I need to switch up a fitness routine (again- free with my health care program). We'll see.0

If this is a more recent feeling, maybe Aunt Flo is on her way? I know that visit makes me pretty tired (and cranky)0

OP, you're describing me a few years ago. Seasonal Affective Disorder is a possibility; until last year, a therapy light did me a world of good. This year I had to supplement that with Wellbutrin, and now I'm kicking myself for not doing it years ago. (I was a little leery of antidepressants because of an unpleasant experience with one.) Talk with your doc about SAD.
Glad to see you've gotten bloodwork. Vitamin D supplementation helps too.0 -
Ha- it's not aunt flo - I'm really leaning towards SAD since I've tried to rule out other simple remedies. Maybe I'll try a light. I have been Welbutrin before and weaned off it. It really helped and didn't seem to have any severe side effects.0
