I'm looking for people in the Birmingham/Inverness area that are trying to lose weight. I am in need of people to workout with. I find it hard to stay motivated on my own.

Hey neighbor! Technically we are in East Limestone. I love Five Points, all the cute Craftsman homes, we are always hiking up at the Land Trust!

We love it here too, it's so pleasant to walk around especially in the Twickenham area when we are going downtown. It's a 4 minute drive up to Land Trust for me I used to go up there a few times a week. I haven't been up there since I learned I was pregnant because of the fall risk, but I'll miss being close. It's so pretty in the early morning hours when the mountains are all foggy. I usually walk around Big Spring Park instead. I'll miss being closer to things once we move. The Green Mountain trail is tiny and can get so busy in the summer, and Aldridge creek gets boring fast. We need more space now that we will have a child, I wish we could find another house in 5 points or Oak Park but I'm glad that we will be closer to the branch of the Y we actually go to now. We've been going to the one downtown since it opened but it really doesn't have much to offer.
I've been trying to find more kid friendly things to do in SE once she gets older, I found this site a few months ago. Have you seen it? rocketcitymom.com
OP, sorry to hijack the thread. I hope you find some people a little closer. I liked going into Birmingham when I went to Montevallo but I haven't even been down there for a few years now.0 -
Thats one I haven't seen. We do a lot of memberships, Botanical Garden and Children's Museum, Sci -Quest as they get older. Oh, and The Space and Rocket Center. And some of those have reciprocal agreement with the McWane Science Center in B'ham (fun place) and the science center in Nashville. I'm pretty sure SE has a Kids Kingdom playground, I actually take the kids to the one in Madison. And, of course, hiking.
The Green Mountain trail, do you mean Madison County Park? Or as my kids call it, 'the walk around the lake' it does get busy. Have you done Rainbow Mtn in Madison? Short but challenging!
Yes, OP sorry for the hijack!0 -

Memberships sounds like a great idea, I'm going to try staying at home at least until she's in preschool so I'm sure I will get so antsy and it will be great to have places to take her fairly regularly. I thought I read Sci Quest was closing. That's cool about the reciprocal agreement I hope to do day trips to Nashville, Chattanooga, Atlanta etc once she's older. I will have to look into that. I love how family friendly Chattanooga is with so many things in walking distance of each other. We went on a trip in Oct. to get some children's books from Mckay's and there were all these little kids doing some sort of halloween thing outside the aquarium it looked like they were having a lot of fun.
Oh, I never knew it's proper name. That's the one, I haven't been to the one in Madison, I will have to check it out. Thanks!0 -

No, Sci Quest didn't close! It moved. It's temporary home is on Paramount drive off of 72 in Madison. (First light west of Providence) I think they are renovating a building a next to Old Time Pottery on Madison Blvd. Chattanooga is fun too!

We did Children's Museum and Botanical Gardens membershipswhen the kids were younger, but now that they're older (four of them, spread from 9-14)), we're down to the Space and Rocket Center and sometimes Sci-Quest. We occasionally still use Kid's Kingdom at Dublin Park, and have used the one on Airport Road in Huntsville before (I have kids who play sports over in that part of town, heh).
We like to hit the Indian Creek Greenway, and hike up at Monte Sano, now that my weight is down to a level where it doesn't kill me.
