Odd Question
Okay, so I'm doing a Computer Animation degree, which requires me to often reference real life images for poses and the like. I google imaged 'woman squatting', and amongst all the usual porn style poses you'd expect with that kind of search, there seems to be a bucket load of women squatting on top of their bathroom scales. I've even noticed an advert on this site that features a woman squatting on her scales.
Um. Okay. Seriously, am I missing something here? Is this some kind of standard weighing technique? Because I've seen too many of these images for it to be some kind of weird coincidence.

I know, right? All these skinny women squatting on their scales have started to make me doubt, though. It's like some sort of conspiracy. Surely, this must be the answer to all my weight loss problems.0

Maybe their legs are so weak they can't support themselves standing up. Or they get dizzy when their blood has to pump so far around their emaciated bodies, so they curl up to make it easier on the heart....0

I have never squatted on a scale. That is funny. I have seen kids squat on a scale but never adults.0

Funny - Maybe we are doing it wrong. Do you weigh less if you squat? HAHA0 -
Maybe they are really REALLY near sighted and too vain to wear glasses?0
-
no idea why they do that- except if I dont have my glasses on I have to bend down a bit to see what it says---maybe they are all near sighted.0

Maybe their scales are equipped with a mirror. LOL! )0

Hahahahahaha!!!! This cracks me up!!! Maybe they are near sighted and can't read that far away! I have NEVER heard of squatting on a scale!!!0
-
I don't know about you, but I'm gonna give it a "squat" tomorrow morning! Hopefully it will make me a svelt size 6! ha ha ha0

I feel so stupid for admitting to this but I squat on my scale...
I don't havea digital scale and one of my eyes are stronger than the other and in addition to that the numbers on my scale are super tiny, so I have to crouch down really low to read the scale.0 -

I've done the squatting thing! I am actually incredibly near sighted, and some mornings I am too lazy to put in my contacts, and my glasses are at the other end of the house. I don't want to get dressed THEN weigh, so I try (unsuccessfully) to squat-weigh. It ends up not giving a reading because I am wobbling or have to step off to read it anyway. It's not worth the trouble ... I just suck it up and take the 1 minute extra to put in my damn contacts :P0 -

Glad I'm not the only one who can't read that far off. It feels really really far away!!0 -
bahbahbahbah this is so funny but now that you say it I know what you mean! Im so going to try it haha! wouldnt it be funny if I weighed like 10lbs less and we have just been missing out haha0

Fair enough for those that are actually genuinely short sighted. But I don't think that's the point of these images:

I know! I know! I know! They're trying to get in that last moment of exercise before weigh in!!! Just one more squat!!!!0

looks like they are trying to ride it... hope it grows wheels and they can ride it like a skateboard.0

Ok - that is odd. Although my 2 year old niece loves playing with my scale and she does squat down on it to look at the display. Maybe they just never grew out of that??/0

OK, I absolutely love all the funny reasons why this these pic's are out there. BTW I stand on mine like a normal person too. I would fall off if I tried to squat on the scale.
I am fairly sure that the reason for the squat is to compose a better picture for the ad. It shows not only the women but what they are doing and why they are showing their emotion. A fully standing woman on a scale wouldn't portray this quite as well.0 -
Yes, probably true, though I still find it a little silly =P.0

I do if I lack glasses. Sadly, I have such poor eyesight that I can barely see the number even that way.
I also will if there is very poor lighting or if I think a shadow is being cast. I like accuracy.
But it doesn't really make that sense for most people to do that.0 -
Oh good god. If I tried to squat like that I'd roll off backwards, hit my head on the toilet and knock myself unconscious. I think I'll just stand thanks!0

Hmmmm........you know, in Korea that's how they use the potty. They squat. (toilets are holes in the ground). Are these American chics? Cultural difference perhaps?:noway:0
