Starting from zero

In the past I was relatively active/fit, lost a ton of weight with Jillian Michaels dvds, gym etc and then stopped and every pound came back on.
My fitness is zero now, I want to start getting back into it but I keep getting SO frustrated that I can't do the things I used to be able to and I keep giving up or pushing myself too far and hurting myself.
Has anyone else experienced this and how did you get past it? Is it just as simple as pushing through?

Yep! Just keep on doing it ! You'll eventually get back to where you once where if you continue to push through.
Here's your options- give up and stay exactly as you are right now.
Or keep going and progress on.
I think you should keep going.0 -
I had a similar issue. I was super fit before I got married. Albeit overweight.
After my wedding and 3 babies in 4 years my core and strength became jello.
I started with walking. Then walking faster.
Then I started with a personal trainer. It's been 3 months and I still can't do things like tricep dips off a bench or proper push ups - which I used to knock out easily before I got married.
Never mind. I'm still going. I at least know my body was once able to do these things, and it will come back eventually. If I do the work, my body will pay me back with results.
I have also now started adding sports like golf, tennis and volleyball.
In 3 months I went from doing 30 mins on the treadmill 5x a week - to doing over 15 hours of exercise a week.
Keep going. Do as much as you can and a little bit extra. Keep pushing yourself. You will get there.0 -
You will see that once you start going your fitness level will improve much faster than first time. Sort of like your body starting to remember what it could do.
Don't give up and continue with your plan, you will get there again!
Good luck0 -
Push through. You may have been fit before, but it probably took you time to get there. It's the same thing now. You'll never improve if you don't get started.0

You can't start where you left off. Downshift and ramp up slow, making tiny progress each workout, not huge leaps, or, like you said, you'll get injured. You don't have to work out hard to lose weight, you just need to eat fewer calories than you burn.0 -
Thanks guys, I'm getting the dvd out tomorrow and powering through. I have two weeks off work from next weekend so I know I can really work on getting back into it.0

I started small. I'd tell myself to just do ten minutes of exercise. Or go for a walk. Easy stuff. Then the easy stuff became too easy and I naturally started to push myself. I started out by being motivated by the extra food I could eat, which grew into being motivated by how the exercise made me look and feel. But you have to start somewhere and it's ok to start small if your motivation is lacking at first.0
