has anyone stayed on the induction phase of Atkins for longer than the suggested 2 weeks? Did you have any problems from doing this?
I can't exercise for a while and want to get weight off before surgery and then stick with the induction part of the diet while I'm sitting on my butt for weeks recuperating. I'm being good about sticking to 1200 calories, either going just over or being just under. I'm at the 4 week point and have lost 12lbs.

I have stayed on the induction phase for longer than two weeks, actually for a couple of months with no problems. They say if you have a lot of weight that is an option, This is the second time I am doing Atkins. I did it 6 or 7 years ago and stayed on the induction for the couple of months. It worked really well, but I eventually went back to eating my famous potatoes and put the weight back on. I tried other diets and they never worked as well as the Atkins diet. I am just starting week 3 and have lost 8 lbs. The first time I did not pay attention to calories at all, but this time I am really sticking close to the 1200 calories. It makes it easy to do that with MFP which I didn't have the first time. Good luck with your surgery and your diet.

Yes - 6 months. No problems. It is suggested as an option until you're within 14 lbs of goal weight. You can do a "modified induction" where you introduce some foods that don't have an adverse effect but provide variety etc - nuts for example.
