I just wanted to introduce myself to you all!!! I am a Canadian female who has been teaching in Japan for over a year now. It is hard to be surrounded by extremely thin and fashion conscious people all the time, so I decided to change-my-ways so to speak. I am now going to start a new chapter in my life, one that I hope will be a great one! I just have to stay positive and focused and rely heavily on the support of my friends!!!

Thanks for listening to my rant! :flowerforyou: GAMBATTE!!!

I have been in S.Korea for 2.5 years teaching English and I know what you mean about being surrounded by thin people! Especially with how open people here are about weight. I've had people just randomly say that I'm fat - complete strangers!!!

Hi Vixen, and welcome to THE best site on the web!
Between the easy to use food counter (which by the way is SUCH an eye opener!) and all the wonderfully supportive members, you WILL be able to lose the weight that you want to, AND, it'll "almost" be easy doing it!
I recommend logging ALL your foods BEFORE you have them, rather than later, as it tends to lead to better food choices. (not to mention you'll know if you've got enough numbers left to have a night time snack, like I ALWAYS try to do!) Some people also like to weigh and measure some things, such as meats, rather than just estimating and possibly being WAY off!
Also, drink lots of water, that seems to help alot too. :drinker:

Thanks for all the great support and comments!!

Yes the 'fat' comments can be grating but I understand, or at least try to understand, why they are making the comment. ...the comments keep the fire burning

Hello and Welcome to MFP. You will love this site, everyone here is so supportive and this site is so motivational. I love it. I just wanted to tell you good luck on your weight loss journey. You can do this.
  • Welcome Vixen,

I'm a fellow Canadian and I visited Japan for a month so I know what you're talking about. On a positive note, if you like the food (which I did) it can be very good for slimming down (just stay away from the tempura). I'm living in England now and although not as bad as Japan I do find people to be overall slimmer tham back home.

There is a new support group that just started last week (Crazy Canuks) have a look and if you like join up, it's not too late. Look for the threads under motivation and support or you might see it listed under new topics. Today Wed is weigh in day. Go to the thread exercise & water or weigh -in week 1. Just thought I'd let you know.
