Hi, Im looking at getting a HRM to count calories that i burn in the gym and wondered if anyone could reccommend a good accurate cheap one. ive had lots of people reccomend the POLAR FT 4, (i think thats whats it called) but it seems a bit expensive for my budget. Any others?

Are the calories logged on here accurate or too high or too low?

My FT4 should be coming today, I'll let you know how it is and would also like to hear other peoples opinions of it.

I have a timex that has a chest strap which on Amazon was $60. It seems to be pretty accurate as long as you input your information so it knows how much you weigh and you height. Easy to use. I have compared the HR with what I get at the gym on the Elliptical and it is right on. I use it in the pool without a problem.

Also the calorie burn on here is so general I think as It doesn't "know" you. Remember the heavier you are the more calories you will burn. So after a while of doing the same exercise and losing weight you will have to do it harder or longer to burn the same calories.

    Good luck!

I've got a Polar FT2 - about £50 from memory. Suits my purposes just fine.

During exercise, shows Heart Rate (and monitors your target zone either visually or by beeping), duration, and time of day.

Each session is then logged with data on duration, Average HR, Max HR and date.

Easy one-touch operation. Don't really need much more at my level.
  • I got mine from eBay but it is new in box for £40...
It's here! But haven't had time for a proper look yet cos at work
