Jodi, click on the persons name and a little box will pop up, click on the persons name in that box and you will see the " add friend" button.

To add someone as a new friend from here, click on username under picture, click on username in the window that pops up, and that takes you to their profile page where there's a green "Add As Friend" button. I didn't type too fast, did I?
