Should it matter what you eat for your calories as some foods are heavier than others - some days you can eat over your calories and weigh less or eat less and weigh more

    The weight of a food is irrelevant for weight loss.

    Yeah, some food might add more to your body weight temporarily while you digest it, but this doesn't translate into actual weight gained.

    100 calories of butter weighs less than 100 calories of strawberries, but they're both 100 calories.

    The weight of food in your body will contribute to daily fluctuations in weight, but those are just noise and you should concentrate on the long-term trend in your weight. Is it going down or up? How much you eat vs how much you expend is the key so don't get caught up in daily variance based on food and water weight.

    A calorie is a not a unit of weight. A calorie is a unit of energy. :)

    Sometimes I feel like I stick to calories religiously and exercise loads but not the weight loss I'd like

    This is normal and you might need to adjust as you go along based on your goals but as long as you are going in the right direction then you are doing it right.
