More money, more heinie

Started a great job in August! Apparently, there's not enough stuffing in my car seat, nor my office chair, and my behind is making up for it. My challenge is staying active in an environment that is mostly sedentary...and dropping the 30 pounds I've put on 8^)

I have that issue - well not a NEW job, but a sedentary one.....I go through spurts of doing something about it - so if you can keep up with some stuff it helps - this I can tell. I'm not saying this is to replace a workout -but if it gets you up and moving a little bit - then it can help the 'desk spread'

Walk when you can - take papers to someone's office rather than using the office messenger or e-mail to communicate. Even walking two desks over at least gets you UP. Find the farthest restroom from your desk - always use that one - Take stairs if you can - or take a walk over lunch....

If you have an office (or no one is in the restroom when you go in) - close the door and do some stretching, jumping jacks, anything - just move for 5 minutes....Do pushups off your desk or counter or whatever. I can close my door and no one can see me - I'll do 10 jumping jacks and 10 pushups - and then walk downstairs (the kitchen is down one floor) and refill my water bottle. All in all in only takes a few minutes - but it gets you moving. Fortunately I can dress pretty casual (jeans most days) so that helps and I'm not trying to do something in a dress and heels.

By a set of pedals that fits under your desk. I got mine off Craigslist for $10 - sometimes I'll pedal through a conference call.... I may be sitting - but at least I'm moving.......

Google desk exercises.......there are several out there -

Again - none of this can replace your workouts - but if you can get up and move for 5 minutes every hour or so it does help.

Starting an office job for me was rough on my body.
I started working out at the gym every day after work to make sure I was getting the exercise I needed.
I try to also walk during breaks and especially at lunch when I can get in a good 30 minutes straight. if you are able to get out and walk during the day I suggest it, no matter the weather (unless it is dangerous).
I also eat about six small meals throughout the day and try to stay within my calorie goal. Eating a big lunch makes me sleepy and doesn't help sitting in front of a computer.
Getting the fresh air and getting away helps clear my mind and makes me feel energized when I return.
As the previous poster said there are desk exercises but I've never tried them, I don't have any privacy at my desk :)

I'll have to look for the pedals, and though I won't be doing jumping jacks in my office, I can do a set or two of lunges in the bathroom. And smaller more frequent meals probably better for me too, so that when I get home, I'm not hangry 8^). Thanks for the tips!
