Sleepless in Boston

I've just joined this forum and have a question. My significant other and I just went thru the Wheat Belly 10 Day Detox a few weeks ago and are doing well on the program. If you aren't familiar with it, participants give up ALL grains and grain derivatives. We feel great. However, my SO is having a great deal of difficulty getting to sleep at night. We are night owls anyway and don't usually hit the sack until midnight, but he is still staring at the ceiling at 4 a.m. and often doesn't fall asleep until 6. Of course, then I hate to wake him and sometimes he'll sleep until almost noon. He's tried melatonin and L-tryptophan and occasionally has taken a sleeping pill (which he doesn't like to do) out of desperation. I've suggested that maybe he just needs to take the melatonin and L-T for a few days/weeks before it works. Anyone have any suggestions?

Eat everything in moderation and you won't have any sleep problem. You need all food groups in your diet in order for your body to function at best.0

He doesn't have to lose weight and is eating a balanced diet with plenty of carbs (just not grains). Prior to going on the detox, his diet consisted mainly of bread, pasta, and tons of candy. His idea of dinner was a club sandwich. He ate toast or cereal for breakfast. His snack was something on a cracker. Now he's eating granola with almond milk and fresh berries for breakfast, a salad with chicken or beef for lunch and a balanced dinner with a protein, potato (usually sweet) and a green veggie. His snack is a piece of cheese with a few potato chips or a piece of dark chocolate almond bark. Before he goes to bed he has a little ice cream. Now tell me why he's not sleeping!!!0
