Losing a stone

hi all,

I feel like my whole life I've been on a diet and although I've managed to lose around 10 pounds already I have a stone to go! Now christmas has passed and that January is nearly over I've decided it's a good time to start again (although I wish I had had the motivation to never stop!)

Can anyone recommend a way to manage losing a stone? Should I follow a particular diet or just cut back?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Amy

I would follow the advice on MFP in the edit diet / fitness section. You put in your weight, your goal weight and how many times you are going to exercise a week and for how long, and you tell it how much weight you want to loose a week. MFP works out how many calories you should be eating to achieve that and how long it should take (assuming you stick to your exercise plan). Then you just log everything you eat (its worth the effort).
Don't bother with diets they don't work, just eat less calories than you burn off. That's it.
    Good luck :)

The approach I've had success with...
    • Input my stats into myfitnesspal, gender, height, age, activity level, etc, and how much I'd like to lose per week. This gave me a daily calorie goal I could follow, something to work with. I eat my exercise calories back, but some like to only eat 50%-70% of their exercise calories back because most calorie burns from machines and devices are overestimated.
    • Have a kitchen scale with a tare function, weigh and log everything.

    and, that's it.

Wishing you well with your goal, amywebs18! :)

I'd follow the advice given in this forum. This thread http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10300331/most-helpful-posts-getting-started-must-reads#latest will link you to helpful posts on how to use the site and how to cut back. I'd avoid specific diets that have you eating in a manner that you won't continue when you reach your goal weight.
