Maybe I am just lazy and full of excuses?

Hey all, I'm from the lovely city of Brighton, UK. Currently a full-time student and also roughly working full-time hours. So most of my time I'm sitting at a desk! :( I really want to lose some weight and get in shape not only because the doctor has told me so (high blood pressure) but just for my own self-gratification. I am 6'4'' and weighing in at 126kg (~277lbs).

As much as I love to eat healthily I struggle with having time to prepare meals, limited shared freezer space and being a student I have a limited food budget of no more than £25/week. I also feel like my meal portions are likely too big. Whilst growing up I've been used to big portions being served by my parents.

I have started playing rugby but often find myself with injuries - which I'm fairly positive is because of my weight. Thus finding myself in a catch 22 situation, trying to exercise but injuries are impeding me from doing so. So giving the rugby a miss for a while and concentrating on going to the gym instead.

If anyone has any words of advice or could point me in the direction of any good blogs, videos, books etc. I would be grateful especially for anybody who finds themselves in a similar situation.

Good to meet you all.

I am about the same height and weight. My advise is to be really honest and accurate about the food you log. Portions are a tricky thing to eyeball, so having a good scale and a measuring cup is a must.

Don't start cardio until you have lost a few pounds just to avoid further joint injury.

Those are my tips. I lost all my weight on here in 2013, but depression caused me to gain it all back. You can add me and check out my food diary if you wish. I don't cook often.

Good luck to you! You will feel so much more energetic when you start eating the right amount.

So eat your normal foods, just less of it. Fit them into your calorie goal. Work within your means. You can still eat/prepare easy healthy foods.

    Do whatever exercise you enjoy.

Weight loss is all about calories in, calories out.

+1 to the food scale and calories in calories out. You can lose the weight entirely without exercise if you choose.

Be honest with yourself. You can get advice and support from a large number of people and still fail if you don't get brutally honest with yourself and act. I see it all the time on here. People join MFP, talk, talk and talk about what to do and not to do, and still don't make progress. It's all just words. Act.
