Is it right that your body uses over 700 calories whilst sleeping for 8 hours.

Sounds a bit high but I wouldn't rule it out. If your BMR was 2100 then you would use about 700 sleeping for 8 hrs but that is a high BMR.
Mine would be nearer 70 cals an hour so 560 in 8 hrs0 -
You burn calories simply by existing. Breathing, heart beating, healing, digesting, making new cells, it all burns calories. My BMR is about 1550, so I'd burn just over 500 calories in 8 hours sleeping.0

I am using an app on my phone, I have stated my height and weight, and it's recorded that over an 8hour period last night I had used around 700 Cals, just don't know if it's accurate or not?0

Well what is your height, weight and age?0

I am 5'9, 45 and now weigh 16st8lbs0

As long as you don't eat within 3 hours of bedtime, you'll burn a fair amount of fat whilst you sleep.0

Your BMR is about 1840 (that means you burn around that many calories per day just existing, not counting exercise or working etc), so that's about 615 in an 8 hour period. So 700 is a bit of an overestimation but not wildly.0
