Hello everyone, I'm looking for some advice on exercise and diet with an underactive thyroid which I have recently been diagnosed with since having my baby 6 months ago since then I have put on a lot of weight, had horrendous tiredness amongst other things. I used to enjoy running on a regular basis but now struggle to even lift my legs take the dog for a walk. I have this week been diagnosed with underactive thyroid and I am looking to lose weight and start running again but at the moment it feels like an impossible task so I would welcome any advice on foods that will help (or may not help) and tips on exercising will be greatly appreciated thank you

Take your meds on an empty stomach about 30-60 mins before eating or drinking anything but water. It may take 6 weeks to feel any effect from your meds. You may need to have your dose adjusted multiple times before they find the right dose.0

First take your meds following all the rules that come with it (which should be explained in the info that comes with the meds). I recommend sticking with light exercising until your meds have a chance to level off your thyroid. It makes a world of difference, believe me! Then as you regain energy you can build yourself back to whatever exercise routine you like. As a fellow hypothyroidism sufferer (for almost 6 years now), I would be glad to chat further if you like. Feel free to add me!0

Make sure they have you on armour or naturethroid and not synthroid or its generic. You can learn A LOT at Stop The Thyroid Madness website. Until I got on both T3 AND T4, I could not lose. Also, selenium is very important for the conversion of T4 to T3 so make sure you are getting a minimum of 200mcg of selenium a day. I find I have to take 400mcg but that is totally person dependent. I found taking armour vs. synthroid that my body responded much faster then they normally say it will and I feel much better overall. Check out STTM website and you will learn soooooooooo much about how to conquer this that your doctor will never tell you. BTW, I am on half of the thyroid meds I was 2yrs ago just by healing my body. So you don't HAVE to be on meds the rest of your life. But you do HAVE to heal your body to get off of them.0
