Joint pain

It takes half a mile of jogging before my joints stop hurting and I can jog comfortably. Any advice? I tried taking a couple of days off and they still hurt. I run at my gym on some very nice treadmills with nice rubber on them too.

Since it gets better over time, maybe warm up on the elliptical first?0

Running is actually bad for the knees. Stretching, icing after workouts and foam rolling can really help you out with the pain.0

What is foam rolling?0

You don't actually say which joints hurt, but I assume it is your hips or knees. It sounds like you need to do some warm-up exercises before you run. Personally I do Coach Jay's Lunge Matrix and leg swings before each run. You can also do the Myrtl routine or a post-run yoga routine as a cool down. You can get a description and links to most of these routines here, http://www.runnersworld.com/race-training/give-me-15-minutes and here http://www.runnersworld.com/training-video/post-run-yoga-flexibility-routine.0
