I made my smoothie with s yellow banana (no bruis s) and had terrible constipation all day. I learned it wasn't ripe and actually bound me up. Ever hear of this?

Yes! I can only eat bananas with freckles on them or I get a terrible tummy ache.

Best way to eat bananas is when they are fully ripe - with speckles.

Green or unripened bananas can cause constipation because they are full of heavy starches that exacerbate constipation. Whereas, a ripe banana has fiber content which helps in removing the bowels in the intestinal tract, so it helps in relieving constipation.

Ok, I get that starch content can change as produce ripens/ages. But how does the fiber content change?

No clue, pretty sure it doesn't. That just happened to be the first thing that came up when I googled lol. I think the main difference is the higher resistant starch content of unripened bananas which can cause bloating and gas. They're also harder to digest than sugar obviously.

^^^^Do we really want bananas to help remove our bowels?

    I prefer mine speckled.
    Cheers, h.

I always eat them when they are just ripe enough to peel. So half Green and not fully sweet yet. Bananas make me nauseous if they are ripe. I'm only allowed to eat half a day though. So yeah.

Green bananas, brown bananas, bananas with spots, bananas dipped in chocolate covered in nuts. Yessss! It's all good. Right up my alley.

Spotless bananas give me a tremendous bellyache. I prefer plenty of spots. I use them in my smoothies. When they get really too ripe, I peel and freeze.

I can tolerate both (even some bananas with green) with no issues.

I think they are best eaten ripe when they are nice and spotty. Unfortunately, i hate waiting for this to happen because then i have a bunch of bananas that have to be eaten immediately.

Either way, if you can't tolerate them unripe.... then don't eat them unripe.
