Netbooks
Hello
I want to buy a net book as my old laptop is dying a slow and painful death. However I know very little about what's good and what's not. Can anyone advise me what features/specifications to look out for or can recommend a netbook?
Thanks

My boyfriend is a computer specialist and he said they are such garbage. A lot of them dont have any place for CDs and when they break it isnt worth fixing them. Its better to save a little more money and get yourself a laptop0

I don't really need the specs of a full laptop tho as I have a work laptop for all my work related stuff. Only need something for home that I can go online on eg check mfp and use instant messenger. I don't use the cd or DVD drive in my laptop anyway as everything I watch is stored on a portable harddrive.0 -
Per Cassie - CDs are pretty much history and it's not worth fixing anything but the really higher end laptops anyway. And even then.
I've got an Atrix cell with a laptop dock that I love. It's hardly full feature but it works great for websites.
Beyond that, just spend as much as you are comfortable with, and don't get an odd brand name. Stick with one you've heard of.0 -
For you, the iPad would be perfect! It's on my list to replace my MacBook Air. I also have a full sized HP laptop though for storage though. And I work an online job from home so I have to use the HP for that. But for someone who just needs internet connectivity, email, etc. the Apple iPad is perfect.0

I hadn't considered an ipad. I have an iPhone and that's what I am using to type this message now think I would prefer something I could type properly on as the typing on a touch screen does my head in lol0

and TYPING with a real keyboard, albeit smaller than standard, is one great advantage of my laptop dock over the ipad. But if you already have an iphone, you are probably stuck in that $$$ world.0

I like the idea of a netbook as a second PC. You may be able to get by if you are only using it for browsing, email and can use something like Google docs as your word processor and spreadsheet program.
